DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI – Three more positive COVID-19 cases have been added to the existing 6 confirmed cases in the Virgin Islands (VI), Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) announced this afternoon, December 15, 2020.

Speaking at the Second Sitting of the Third Session of the Fourth House of Assembly (HoA), Hon Malone said given the rise in imported cases, authorities are now looking to add five more days to the territory’s quarantine duration for tourists and returning residents.

It is understood that some of the tourists also allegedly broke quarantine, so aggressive contact tracing is being pursued, the Minister said.

All cases imported - Premier Fahie

Meanwhile, Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1), speaking at today's HoA sitting, said despite the fact that all of the 9 cases were imported, residents still need to adhere to local COVID-19 guidelines and not become complacent.

He said currently there is no evidence of community spread; however, contact tracing will allow for a ‘triple-check’ to ensure the virus does not get out into the public.

In Cayman they are giving out 4 month prison sentences for violating quarantine. We won't need to issue too many of them to make people take us seriously - https://www.caymancompass.com/2020/12/15/breaking-mack-ramgeet-sentenced-to-4-months-in-jail/

If you can’t reach Govt workers ain’t no surprise you can’t expect a call from them.

Two different news articles mentioned no return calls and unable to get through during the first quarantine when persons had symptoms and were calling resulting in one of them dying.

That calling plan is a ridiculous idea. They could say they were asleep, bathing, didn’t hear the phone, snorkeling (those quarantining at sea), etc.
      • yes true (16/12/2020, 08:42) Like (0) Dislike (0) Reply
They were giving some persons phone instead of bracelets, you had to activate the phone when you reach your quarantine location, it stated that they will video call you ( just to make sure you are where you said you are) but they never ever did.

Y'all cannot convince this younger generation to take any vaccines. We more smarter than the older generations. It's obvious y'all getting ready to import the vaccines and hence want to ramp up the cases to convince the public into taking Bill Gates vaccines which y'all was paid to promote.

Every charter and returning boat owners should keep their quarantine flags flying until the end of their trip also if they are going to restaurants on docks those restaurant should ask to see the day 4 test results just to be safe that they are not breaching the quarantine protocals.

This is expected, not surprised,,, My concern were replacing physical security with unproven, untested, malfunction technology,,,,We have to take a second and a more realistic look going forward,,, adding 100 more days is only part of the solution,,, The major problem is dependent on the technology to keep us safe,,,

Edomites are selfish. They only care about themselves. Those that own local businesses in the hospitality industry I.e. hotels, charters companies. All selfish. It’s all about money for them.

Please brothers, sisters, and others neighbors don't panic. Look to the Most High One. call on Him in in prayers genuinely. Confess and forsake our evil doings against His righteous way. Practice genuine love as a daily duty. Move away from pagan style worship of creatures and false gods and self worship. Turn from coveteousness and other ungodly habits. Treat every with Godly respect. Stop behaving independently from uniting our God given strengths for the betterment of the community at large. Follow our Goverment leaders protocol. Stop unjust discrimination against others that you differ in opinion with. Delete pride, arrogance, and selfishness from the mind.
In spite of the many above negative things that we should discontinue, each us must chose for self the path to our destiny. Chose wisely. God our Creator and heavenly Father has spoken through His Son. He is also speaking through many of His servants. Covid-19 is one of the fruit of evil seed that we have sown. It is time for to carefully Check ourselves before we wreck ourselve. Again, please don't panic. With God's help, this too will pass. Let us as a community do our God given part.
  • Why panic?? (15/12/2020, 19:36) Like (3) Dislike (0) Reply
Cases are being DETECTED. This is a GOOD thing. It means the systems in place are working. Hopefully the authorities are also looking to see where systems can be finetuned, and using any data collected to do exactly this.

The borders closed in March. That means the population of the BVI has had NINE FULL MONTHS to become disciplined where public health and hygiene measures, social distancing, mask-wearing and other practices are concerned. NINE MONTHS to inculcate healthy habits, and boost immune systems instead of acting like business as usual. NINE MONTHS! It takes as little as 21 days to form a new habit, so if you didn't learn during ALLLLLLL that time, there really is no helping you anyway. The borders could NOT stay closed forever!

The only thing panicking now will do is boost your cortisol and adrenaline levels and compromise your immune system anyway. Be sensible and help yourself nuh.

As long as the systems in place are working, there are strict penalties for violators and measures are taken to protect those who LIVE HERE and who come into regular contact with infected/ quarantined persons as well as the general population (taxi operators, environmental health and health services staff), everything should work out just fine.

For those still intent on conducting themselves like they're in pre-pandemic times... may the odds be ever in your favour.

Some of them tourists coming here with their bad habits we see in the states. They don’t want to obey our rules and when we lock them up they put the BVI on social media.
    Quarantine them for 14 days!!

Persons violating quarantine is a HUGE problem for this territory because people have stopped wearing masks properly and consistently. It's all over social media...pics and videos of people hiking, carolling, boating, and socialising without masks. You see them and wonder whether the laws have changed. Why are they not protecting themselves and others? Then you hear stories like this. Why risk fuelling community spread through carelessness? Just properly wear a mask!
