ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Aaron Martinson, who was no stranger to Digicel, had signed up for a Digicel pre-paid account after having problems with the competitor network. Days after he was the lucky Christmas Eve winner of $5,000 in the ‘Shake to Win with Digicel’ promotion.

“I’m feeling great! Thank you! To tell you the truth I switched [to Digicel] and haven’t regretted the move,” Mr Martinson said.

The lucky Digicel customer said he had no plans for the money other than to save it.

‘This is what we want for our customers’- Timothy M. Barker

“This is what we want for our customers. They’ve been very loyal to us over the years, so in addition to providing them with the best service, we want to reward them by giving them more,” Timothy M. Barker, Marketing Executive of Digicel BVI stated in a press release on January 14, 2020.

Digicel teamed up with radio stations everywhere to offer customers prizes (cash and kind) for answering their phone with the phrase that pays. In this case, the magic words were “Shake to win with Digicel”.

This promotion, according to Digicel, tied in nicely with Digicel’s ‘Shake It’ gamification feature on the recently revamped MyDigicel app.

Since mid-November ‘Shake It’ has been played nearly 1.5 million times and has seen hundreds of thousands of customers throughout the Caribbean winning prizes.

Promotion rolls over to 2020

Starting as early as November 21, 2019, the radio campaign, driven by some of the most popular DJs in Tortola, caught on quickly and had seen 70 plus customers winning as of Christmas Eve.

Across the 28 participating countries, by December 24, 2019 there were 1,772 winners with Haiti, Aruba and Curacao in the lead when it comes to the highest total number of winners per country, having 453, 351 and 178 respectively, according to the Digicel press release.

“This radio promotion has really connected with our customers, so much so that we’ve extended it into 2020, this way more people can win the chance to have a prosperous New Year like our friend Aaron,” Mr Barker said.

Who can win?

All customers who are on an active plan and have the MyDigicel app downloaded are eligible and could easily receive a call from one of their local radio stations.

In addition to continuing with the radio promotion, Digicel customers can also look forward to more prizes with guaranteed wins in the MyDigicel app on ‘Shake It’ Saturdays. Each Saturday, all customers have to do is go into the app, hit the ‘Shake It’ icon and Shake to Win.

Outside of the guaranteed ‘Shake It’ Saturday wins, customers can shake for a chance to win when they activate any data plan. Prizes up for grabs include phones, data plans and bundles, and so much more.

Locally, over the holiday season, 2462 customers won prizes ranging from gigabytes and gigabytes of data, to smartphones and, of course cold, hard cash.
