ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Four men have been charged with possession of cocaine following Wednesday night’s July 22, 2015 bust off Virgin Gorda, a story first reported by Virgin Islands News Online. The men were denied bail when they appeared in the Magistrate's Court on July 24, 2015.

Although more charges are likely, Donald George, David Straker, Anderson Flax and Lyndon Chiverton have been remanded to Her Majesty's Prison following their plea of not guilty to the charge.

It is understood that further investigations are ongoing which could result in additional charges for the quartet.

"I can think of no condition that would minimise the risk that they would not abscond," Principal Magistrate Tamia N. Richards said in giving her decision to deny bail.

The Magistrate said she took into consideration the porous nature of the territory's borders in deciding not to grant any bail.

She also considered the nature of the allegations and the evidence against the men.

While the street value and the quantity of the cocaine were not disclosed, they are believed to be significant.

The trial continues on September 15, 2015.

Police in a press release on Thursday morning had informed that two vessels were intercepted and suspected drugs seized off Virgin Gorda in the operation that involved the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) and US Coast Guard.

“Three male suspects were detained on the vessels and Officers report that they have seized a quantity of what is believed to be narcotics. The vessels are currently being comprehensively searched for contraband and the three persons are in custody,” a press release issued by the RVIPF this morning, July 23, 2015 stated.

The RVIPF said the two vessels were intercepted by Officers in VI waters close to Virgin Gorda, late Wednesday night. It also said no one was hurt during the operation.

lots of people invest in this--lots of people will fall. its an investment a high risk investment, get through get rich, get caught, suffer, even die. People involved know exactly what they are getting into--They have a plan to get out of jail, they have that figured out bfore, they have their lawyers and pay-off monies put aside also. they will be Ok. 50bails get stopped-- 200 bails passed through--these smugglers got brains, they are one step a head of the feds.

Feds got drugs informant--drug cartel got feds informants---These incidents are no accident. The BVI is soft on its penalty and people are willing to take pay-off---These Cartels are one step a-head.

Some is the BVI'S most respected men and women made their fortunes plying the dope trade. Look around you. Construction, trucking, concrete, Boating, car rentals, Heavy equipment etc. Same people we let into our homes and businesses. Don't be so quick to judge.
