ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Four men were yesterday, Saturday, March 28, 2020, charged and released on their own recognisance for breaking the mandatory 24-hour curfew put in place by Government to help mitigate the spread of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The round-the-clock lockdown began at 8:00pm on Friday, March 27, 2020. The curfew will be lifted at 6:00am on Thursday, April 2, 2020.

According to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), all the charges occurred on the main island of Tortola, with two each at Road Town and East End respectively.

One of the men, known to Virgin Islands News online has having no fixed place of abode, was allegedly found along Main Street in possession of a brand new microwave.

Following questioning, the man reportedly led officers to a parked vehicle in a Road Town parking lot, where it was found that the man retrieved the item through a ‘plastic window’ of a car.

The other men charged included two VIslanders and a Jamaica national.

The RVIPF had made its first arrest of a resident for allegedly defying the mandated 8:00pm Territory-wide curfew which was in effect on Thursday, March 26, 2020, up until 6:00am Friday, March 27, 2020.

There’s a lot of boys on bikes violating the curfew because they think the police can’t catch them. They killing themselves on the road and breaking the curfew law. Band these bikes for a good month or two I bet they would relax.

Yes, that is another hang out spot on the courts acting the fool. That is another tip for the police. Police we are willing to snitch them all out if we see them because we know the police can’t be everywhere at once. We all want to be safe so yes, we are going to assist the police by turning them in. Stay your behinds at home and obey the laws
or we will drop a dime to the police.

If any child under 18 caught violating the curfew charge the parents or guardians for allowing them out in the first place.

RVIPF needs to give these people a hefty fine, minimum 20k. Let the men pile up in one cell at the police station until they pay the fine. No court case, pay the fine or stay your ass in the cell full of man instead of being comfortable in your own home where you belong! Since they having this thing for a joke! 5 days of lockdown and people being willful. If everything closed where y’all really going? Instead of staying in for the 5 days so this virus could be over with and go back to our lives before the virus, people up and down on the streets making it worst. This lockdown might just get prolonged because of y’all stupidity!
