L&B Stables' horses already in STT

Asked about the preparation for the race, Violet ‘Letty’ Hodge of L&B Stables said, “We are in St Thomas already. We always come down earlier than the others. We would spend like a week to let the horses settle.”

She said Doughmaker and Bittersweet Dream are looking good and she insisted they are ready for their races.

Asked which horse she believed was the competition to pay attention to, Hodge said she never sees one horse over the other but all horses as competition. “I think I’m ready for them,” she added.

She also believes Doughmaker will bounce back from its performance two weeks ago when it was defeated by Apollo Sky. “I believe we will see a different Doughmaker this time,” said Hodge.

Chilean Boy touted to win

Speaking to this news site, horse owner Lesmore Smith said he has a total of three horses going down to St Thomas: Chilean Boy, Kiton and King Hugo. “My expectation is to win the races,” he said confidently. He said the card is “a nice one” as the horses seem to be evenly matched and this he thinks will make for some great competition.

Enos Z. Aaron, assistant trainer for The Boys’ Stables, speaking to this news site, said Apollo Sky and Yes By Eric are ready to repeat their performance last time out in Tortola. “Yes, they are ready,” he said, noting that one never knows what may happen.

“The horses can’t talk to us and tell us how they feeling but they are fresh from running the last race here so I don’t think there was too much more preparation that had to be done,” said Aaron.

Racing Secretary of the St Thomas Horse Racing Association Kareem ‘Pogo’ Thompson said the preparations are set. “The preparations coming good. Everything about set. All of the races are set,” he said when contacted. “The horses from St. Croix and Tortola are here. Some more are set to arrive on Tuesday. So everything is good so far,” he said.
