SCRUB ISLAND, VI- Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina has made changes to its executive team with the hire of three new individuals.

In a press release on July 29, 2025, the resort’s management announced that it had hired Ms Scarlett Steer as Real Estate & Business Development Manager, Mr Alex Karageorgiadis as Director of Operations, and Mr Rasheed Oladele Olalekan as Director of Engineering.

Ms Steer will be responsible for real estate sales and community relations at the exclusive, private island paradise and serve as the direct liaison to charter companies and other local businesses for attracting visitors to Marina Cay, Scrub Island’s Marina, Ixora Spa, and other resort outlets.

Karageorgiadis will handle day-to-day resort management and ensure proper guest and staff engagement at both Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina and the neighbouring Marina Cay Bar & Grill. In his role, Olalekan will oversee all engineering operations at the luxury, private-island resort, including facilities management, preventive maintenance, capital planning, and environmental sustainability initiatives.

All 3 bring a wealth of experience & knowledge

General Manager Sandra Grisham-Clothier said, “All three individuals bring a wealth of experience and hands-on knowledge to the resort, making them invaluable additions to our operations team.”

Ms Steer previously served as Guest Services Manager, and later Real Estate Sales Manager, at Oil Nut Bay on Virgin Gorda, where she began her career in Virgin Islands luxury residential, resort, and commercial real estate. She earned her degrees in Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa, where she also worked as a journalist, editor, and photographer for travel publications.

Mr Karageorgiadis joins the resort having served as General Manager of Avra Hotel, a luxury boutique property in Athens, Greece. He also worked as Director of Operations and Director of Food & Beverage at such notable properties as Pink Sands Resort (Harbour Island, Bahamas), The Crane Resort (St. Philip, Barbados), the Alexandra Resort (Providenciales, Turks & Caicos), and Canyon Ranch Hotel & Spa (Miami Beach, Florida). He earned his degree in Business Administration from Deree College in Athens and is also Sommelier Certified.

Mr Olalekan comes to Scrub Island following his role as Director of Engineering at Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara, a 33-acre luxury island resort in Qatar, where he managed critical infrastructure, including generators, desalination systems, sewage treatment facilities, and an extensive fleet of marine vessels. His project leadership included the development of an island adventure park, paddle courts, and multiple resort pools. Before that, he served as Chief Engineer at both Anantara Maia Seychelles Villas and MAIA Luxury Resort & Spa and held senior engineering roles with Southern Sun Hotels in the UAE, Nigeria, and the Seychelles.

Too often, when one of our own makes it to the top, instead of rallying behind them, many within the same community begin to tear them down. Whispers of jealousy, unrealistic expectations, and a double standard quickly set in. The very people who once cheered them on begin to resent their success.

Before we jump to conclusions, let's seek some answers.
    1. Were the vacancies advertised locally?
    2. If so, did any locals apply?
    3. If the posts were not advertised locally, what exactly is the Labour Department doing? (They are the ones to issue work permits).
Too often, we grab the snake by the wrong end. Let’s be sure the facts are in hand before we decide where to point the torch.

Anyone ever consider that government actually prefers an ex pat on work permit over a bviislander? Lots of money to be made on work permits. Think about that.

Anyone looked at the qualifications.... anyone looked at the experience.... this is a resort that relies on its image of excellence to keep its market share.... this requires overtime, weekends and holidays.... guess which nationality has an issue working this crucial days
