ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – It last happened in 1988, but on Thursday March 29, 2012, Carlisle House were finally victorious again at the Elmore Stoutt High School Inter House Track and Field Championships.

Not happy with one title, Carlisle House also took home the Cheerleading Championship by a mere five points from O’Neal House to make it a double celebration.

They won the overall House Championship with a total of 638.5 points with Flemming House second on 619 and O’Neal House third with 575. In fourth were Lettsome House on 530.5.

In the Cheerleading Competition, Carlisle scored 338, O’Neal came second with 333, Flemming were third with 284 and Lettsome fourth on 273.

While there were many sterling performances and records broken, J’Nae Wong with 44 points and Birthday Boy Rakeel Jack with 50 were crowned Victrix and Victor respectively.

They both also won the Junior Division Championships along with Kala Penn and Deshawn Douglas in the Intermediates. The Senior Division Champions were Ashley McCall and Jamaal Alexander.

In the senior girls 4 x 400m the O’Neal quartet of Natisha Claxton, Tevern David, Shanice Husey and Shanique Oliver lowered the record to 4:33.44. Jamaal Alexander set a new best time in the senior boys 200m finishing in 22.04 to beat the mark set by himself last year He also led home Shacoy Stephens and Brandon Andrew’s in the 100m to set a new School and National Junior record, winning in a time of 10.56.

In the Intermediate 200m Deshawn Douglas’ time of 23.71 beat the record set last year by Tarique Moses.

In the Intermediate Girls 200m Nelda Huggins lowered the School record to 24.57 to replace Brittany Wattley who ran 24.70 in 2009. In the Junior Girls 200m, Judine Lacey set a new School record with her winning time of 26.11; she also lowered the school 400 metre record with her time of 1:01.45.

Huggins also set a new record in the 100m with her time of 12 flat.

No less than three competitors surpassed the old school javelin record for Intermediate Girls with Javelin Frett and Tynelle Gumbs beaten into second and third respectively by Trevia Gumbs, who holds the new National Record distance of 36.74 metres. She also set a new School record in the Shot Put with a distance of 11.59m.

Niayla Smith took down Chantel Scatliffe’s record in the senior girls 800m with her winning time of 2:28.91 and Tarikah Moses also set a new School record in the Intermediate division with her time of 2:21.69.

In the Boys Discuss, Eldred Henry established a new record with a winning throw of 41.66 metres- a feat he repeated in the Shot with a winning distance of 12.38m.

Lakeisha Warner picked up three new records with new low times in the 3000m, 1500m and 400m

Tarique Moses also took home a new school record when he beat Alexander in the senior boys 400m with a winning time of 49.98.

The day itself, however, belonged to Carlisle House Athletes and Cheerleaders, who will all be hoping this year marks the start of another five successive Championships, which they last achieved back in 1971-75.
