2013 IAAF World Championships
Two hundred and six countries have confirmed their participation in the championships, the largest number ever. The IAAF World Championships Moscow 2013 takes place in the Russian capital from 10 to 18 August, bettering the 200 countries that participated in Seville, Spain in 1999 and Berlin, Germany in 2009. With a total of 1974 athletes having been entered (1106 men and 868 women), the record of participants is also on course to be broken as the previously most attended Championships in terms of athletes was Berlin 2009 with 1895.
Broadcasting agreements are in place covering more territories than ever before in the history of the IAAF World Championships that will ensure coverage of Moscow 2013 in over 200 territories worldwide. In the Caribbean through a collaboration between Television Jamaica and the Caribbean Media Corporation, the events for the next ten days will be seen on ABS TV in Antigua and Barbuda, ZNS in the Bahamas, the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation, in Barbados, the Caribbean Broadcasting Network in the British Virgin Islands, Marpin 2k4 TV in Dominica, Grenada Broadcasting Network in Grenada, National Communications Network in Guyana, Television Jamaica in Jamaica, Winners TV in St. Lucia, Ampies Broadcasting Corporation in Suriname and FLOW in Trinidad and Tobago.
The 14th edition of the championships will be the largest global sporting event of the year. It is anticipated that the nine days of action will reach a cumulative audience of more than five billion TV viewers. TVJ’S General Manager, Claire Grant said “Television Jamaica is very pleased to join with our colleague broadcasters in the Caribbean in delivering this Mega Athletic Event to the people of the Caribbean.”
