BALSAM GHUT, Tortola, VI- It was around 2:40 P.M. today, August 19, 2017 that a brawl ensued at Her Majesty’s Prison, the state’s only penitentiary, located at Balsam Ghut on the main island of Tortola.

According to sources close to the situation, it appears that three prisoners were engaged in the alleged stabbing of two prison guards.

The situation surrounding the incident remains sketchy; however, it is also our understanding that a key used to open certain areas of the prison facility has been missing.

It is also our understanding that the security guards had to seek medical attention at Peebles Hospital.

Police are on the scene investigating the matter as well as Superintendent of Prison Mr David Foot.

We will bring more details as they come in.

Someone is slipping big time up in that prison. Seems like that is the norm. Key missing, officers and inmates getting stabbed. Hate to say this but, don't be surprised if those inmates start a full blown prison riot.

Foot is a minor part of the problem....the senior officers up there pushing contraband in and out of that place for years....now they being forced to play by the rules and cant take it. Up there need a serious house cleaning and foot needed to do that months ago

Keep everyone on lock down, get the locks changed and add more locks. What do the security cameras say?

Prisoners run things at that facility and those in charge facilitate it. Sad.

It is time for a woman to run that prison. A woman running that prison, everything would be in order. Yes, there are women running prisons and they run a tight ship.

They had over 40 comments crucifying action man wife for her new post at the college but the white man prison get 8 comments and no serious call for that man to be fired and new leadership put in place. We have some real serious criminals up there and its more than obvious that the head and his team are not capable of running an efficient facility. If it was a local running it then you all would find your mouth to chat shit.

Someone earlier said Foot is a "minor part of the problem". Let it had been a Virgin Islander, they would have been saying he's not qualified. The Slave Mentality in this place runs deep. What a sick bunch...

If a key is missing is not the first thing you do change the lock?

You all keep sleeping on those prisoners. Yeah I believe a riot is going to break out in that prison soon. When it does, I want to see just how it is going to be handled.

@OG, I guess they are going to call in some of those hard core prison guards from ST. Thomas with the riot gears to calm S.,t down. Of course it is only a matter of time before the inmates seize that prison. Of course they are getting out at nights and doing what they want and returning before the sun comes up.Foot you you need to really check your staff.

Sorry but ur report is wrong, I work at the prison and nine of me fellow offices was stabbed, yes they was I a fight with a few inmates on the security wing and yes a key is missing so the prison is on locked down until we get that key
    • Good luck with that (20/08/2017, 10:00) Like (4) Dislike (0) Reply
@hello, LOL, what kind of answer is that about prison is on lock down untill the missing key is found. You know good and well that key is not going to be found. The damn locks should have been changed the minute the key was missing. I believe inmates are leaving under the cover of darkness and returning before daybreak.
    • @hello (20/08/2017, 14:30) Like (2) Dislike (1) Reply
You dam lie , can't spell behind. You ain working at no prison and why lock down till you find key? Somebody using it until then. So a smart thinker would change locks

You have some nerve even commenting on this. All of you guards are nothing but crooks that abuse your power and it was only a matter of time before things got out of hand. These people are locked up yes, but you guards are a big problem. Constantly having sexual intercourse with each other on the job, breaking all the rules and making moves without Foot's knowledge. Those guys are human beings with feelings and rights and just because they're locked up doesn't mean they should be mistreated. Of course they will eventually flip out!!!

Sad day. I clearly remember when Mr. Foot was on his way in..his resume says he was imminently qualified and experienced. Well, clearly something has gone amiss. This is a true reflection of why we need to train and hire our own people. If he was back home, he would have been relieved of his position a long time ago. Why do we continue to settle for leadership which is considered poor performance?

It is time for him to go.

If the comments are true, perhaps an inquiry is needed before attributing blame to anyone, particularly in relation to funding and resources for the prison.

Foot hands are tied. These prisoners especially those from these islands (BVI) are being empowered by family members, in some cases politicians and even the views of some sect of the general public who treated them as heros. This is the only place i know where criminals are idolized and the victims of their crimes are are forgotten. The Prisoner Officers are unable to do what they are paid for because of these same influences. Mark this, things will get worst up there if we as a society do not change our attitude. Our schools are plague with youths if not for the heroic acts of teachers. While some parents are doing all that they could do there are those who do not care about their children who are allowed to anything they like until they break the law and are sent to prison then they blame someone else. Foot or not if we do not change our behavior towards law and order and stem the flow of anti social behavior starting in our homes with our own children things will certainly go south or notthbfrom here.

Guys...If they shut down contraband, cell phones, and freedom, you will then have LOTS of problems.
It would be like locking up a wild animal in a cage for hours, then letting it out. The results would be inevitable.
