ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Six calypsonians will now be going head to head with the three time and reigning Monarch, Sistah Joyce (born Joycelyn Searles), for the Calypso crown and the grand prize of $6,500.

A total of eight calypsonians hit the stage to a skeleton crowd at the Tortola Pier Park parking lot, despite a three hour delayed start on the evening of Saturday July 9, 2016.

The calypsonians were: Ranking Joey who sang Things Change, King Paido who sang Too many Murders, King Henry with Crime don’t pay, The Mighty Mako with That’s gambling, Mighty Rocky, Never shut me mouth, Ojinga with Killing the show, Falco with Stand Up for my country and Queen Shereen with Strength.

Topping the eliminations was Falco with 260 points, followed by Queen Sherene with 258 points. King Henry and Mighty Mako followed with 256 points. King Paido came in with 230 points and Mighty Rocky with a total of 202 points.

Ranking Joey and Ojinga were eliminated, with scores of 168 and 193 respectively.

Sistah Joyce also did a guest performance, as she gave a hint of things to come.

New president of the Calypso Association Eustace ‘Boss’ Freeman commented to the press that in his view the show could have been better supported but the calypsonians came out and presented some good songs.

The final calypso show is on Wednesday July 27, 2016 at the Festival Grounds in Road Town where a new Monarch or a four time Monarch will be crowned!

Noting that at this show there was a three hour delay, how do you expect VG folks to come over and support considering the fact that the return ferry leaves 11:00PM. It is time we take a stand and try to start these shows on time. Try it just one time and you will see that folks will start coming out early. it is totally unfair to those folks who try and get there early and then there is nothing happening. Something needs to be done, or you definitely wont have a great support from VG, and the majority of us want to support Festival. After all, unity is strength.

Soca monarch and calypso show should be the same night. So the Calypsonians can get a decent crowd to sing to. Wednesday is bus.. They are not good enough and controversial enough to pull a crowd.
