CARROT BAY, Tortola, VI – Cognizant of the fact that a mind is a terrible thing to waste and that investing in the youth stands to bear much benefits for the future, members of the First District and their Representative Honourable Andrew A. Fahie will be hosting a motivational session on Sunday August 11, 2013.

The session will carry the theme ‘Never give up’ and will see several persons delivering short motivational speeches on topics such as the Principles of Living with Principles, Why Character Matters, Preparing for Success, Putting God first, Being Educated verses Receiving an Education and More Prayer More Power, or No Prayer No Power.

The activity will be held at the Abraham Leonard Community Centre and targets youth from the First District from pre-school to college as well as parents. Hon. Fahie said the activity would be “one of the most powerful back to school motivational session for our First District youths.” The session will run for one and a half hour.

“These topics and more will allow our First District youth and parents to leave the event charged and energized to take on the upcoming school year and life with a positive mindset to never give up,” said Hon. Fahie as he spoke to Virgin Islands News Online on the rationale behind the forum.

He also said, “So we expect to see all First District parents and youths there on Sunday as together as a First District community we will move forward with a positive mindset that come what may this school year and in life we will never give up with the help of God.”

The district representative also said it is important that everyone plays a part in the positive molding of youths from now. “Bearing in mind that we can only reap what we sow. As a First District Community and as a Territory we must continue to focus on the areas that unite as a people rather than those areas that divide us. To this end we must plant seeds of greatness in our youths so that we can all enjoy the fruits of excellence in the future.”

Engaging youths of the First District positively has always taken pre-immense in the planning and execution of activities and event in the district. Hon Fahie said that this summer was started with a Basket Ball youth camp that went for three weeks in July and had targeted youths ages 5-18 years old.

There is another camp that is currently being run in the First District, an athletics camp from Monday-Saturday, 4-6 P.M. at the Capoons Bay recreational grounds. This camp is the brainchild of Vice-President of the BVI Athletics Association (BVIAA), Mr Steve Augustine and has the blessings of the BVIAA President, Mr Dean Greenaway. This camp is being sponsored and co-hosted by Hon. Fahie.

On August 17, 2013 the camp will close with an athletic competition among those enrolled in the programme.

“As First District Representative and a First District community we will continue to intensify our efforts and resources on developing and improving on youth programmes in the First District,” said Hon. Fahie. He said so far this course of action has had a positive impact on the lives of youth in the First District.

“It is a well known fact that our youth are the future of tomorrow. If you want to see how our future will look like all we have to do is look at how our youth are today.”

The First District Representative expressed gratitude to Mr Irad Smith, Rhennie Phipps and Mr Karl Scatliffe for assistance rendered in the execution of the summer camps. He was also grateful to the parents who allowed their children to participate as he said it was a show of confidence in the organisers.
