ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Early rain did little to dampen the enthusiasm of the Seventh Day Adventists School as they held their Annual Inter House Sports Day on Thursday January 30, 2014 at the A.O. Shirley Ground.

Heading into the lunch break Meshach House held a points lead of 14 over Abednego House at the Seven Day Adventist School Inter House Sports Day, but by the end of some scintillating relay races the “Reds” snuck over the Championship line by just one point from Shadrach House to set off wild scenes of jubilation.

The final scores saw Abednego House total 420, the “Golds” 419 and the “Blues” 349.

The race of the day, the 4 x 100m Boys Relay, saw K’Cei Moses storm down the home straight, but narrowly fail to overhaul Melvin Knight at the line, to finish third behind “Gold” and “Blue.”

Knight, more well known for his Rugby exploits, showed tremendous last ditch determination to cross the line inches ahead of track star Moses and seemingly condemn the “Reds” to missing out on Championship glory.

However other results across the age groups meant that the “Reds” did just enough to earn bragging rights for the year.

The day had begun with an interruption by a brief rain shower, but not even that could dampen the spirits of the teams as they marched around the circuit to the beat of the Drum Corps and sung the house songs to generate a competitive start to proceedings.

The Territorial Song, words of encouragement and a motivational speech from Guy Hill, father of sprinter Taylor and Joshua, all added to what turned out to be the closest fought contest in years.

Shoe races, Bucket races and back to school races kept the crowd entertained, as well as the Primary School athletes involved and the bar has definitely been set for the other schools to raise as the High School and Primary School Championships continue to feature on the sporting calendar.

The Victor was Ryan Robinson of the Champions, Abednego House and the Victrix,  Shamica Glasgow of Meshach House.
