PARAQUITA BAY, Tortola, VI – Persons who witnessed a daring fight with weapons between two High School boys while in the Paraquita Bay area yesterday afternoon September 17, 2014, were thankful that there was no bloodshed.

It was a very close call where one would have viciously stabbed the other had it not been for the screams of bystanders that alerted peacemakers to quickly push the target away from the boy who was advancing with weapon in hand.

This scene unfolded right before the eyes of a reporter attached to this news site sometime around 4:00 pm in Paraquita Bay.

How it all unfolded

It appeared that the two fighters had just gotten off a bus carrying schoolchildren when they got engaged in a daring fist fight. They appeared to have been no older than 16 years of age.

The fist fight escalated from standing and cuffing out to tumbling on the ground. This lasted for quite some time as several adults chose to stand aside and look on. It was also noted that the driver of the bus also stayed in 'stop' mode seemingly enjoying the scene along with the other children in the bus before driving off without any attempt to part the fighting youths.

It took the effort of two other peers, also dressed in the school uniform and whom appeared to have gotten off the same bus, who took some blows in their effort to part the two. When one decided that he was not going to suffer any longer, the other was bent on bringing calm to the fight and pressed on until they were parted.

What happened next was what was bothersome and a cause to worry about the sorry state of violent behaviour and the rise of indiscipline among youths who have no regards for adults.

It was a struggle to keep the two from clashing again. While one decided that walking away was the best thing to do the other continued in a rage of hot temper.

The one who appeared to have been walking way lived just a stone’s throw away. He went into his yard and in a few short moments was back out brandishing a machete. The screams of onlookers became loud and the peacemaker had his hands filled again as he risked being injured while he struggled and eventually succeeded in taking the weapon away.

But the other kept on pursuing him. “Oh lord Janet come quick a boy gon chap up your son come quick Paraquita Bay,” screamed one woman who knew the boys and was also struggling to part the fight.

It was then the other was noticed advancing in tears and an obvious temper carrying what appeared to have been a large carving knife, with curved and pointed tip. There was no holding back of him as persons fearful for their own safety started screaming and running away.

He advanced to the other who was already subdued by the friend of his mother and was being whisked away. “NO NO NO,” and in a split second the knife wielding youth was a step away poised to inflict wounds but it was the peacemakers’ quick blocking of the attempt that prevented the worst from happening and again it was their peer who was brave enough to struggle with his friend and relieve the other of his knife.

It did not stop there as the other managed to get himself away from those who tried to make peace, went into the yard of the one who had the weapon and started throwing stones at his home. The other was believed to have gone into his apartment at that time.

Shortly after a man who appeared to have been a parent arrived on the scene and had to literally man-handle the one who narrowly escaped injury or death. He fought back with the parent with words and attempts to free himself from the grasps. “What you doing without your shirt, I send you to school dressed to go and come back same way, what you doing, what you going on with boy, what you behaving with, get into that vehicle now, NOW I say, get in there now,” said the parent in his attempt to discipline the youth.

Snippets of the scene were caught on camera in video form but cannot be shown on this news site as the boys are believed to be minors and the extent of the explicit language was overwhelming.

I don't think they are saying it's the Minister's FAULT but it's he is over Education and so his name would come up in what ever solution is trying to be suggested for this type of deviant behaviour.

What about the parents??? I'm sure that the Minister had nothing to do with either one of these young men's conception...

My statement tackle the problem from the top when it comes to deeds young men with the intent to commit a crime. Machete and knife was involve so if they cannot be control on the street put dem in a juvenile detention center and da minister responsible should be providing for dat. When you tink about it, the parents as much as they try, the kids still go out and do bad so. How many times you will tell deeds rugrats to turn the other cheek?

So it have to be tackle from the top to send a message and if the minister is focus on travel and blowing up he mouth in the House of assembly with he bullying tactics well he too is at fault for not focusing on de youths. Dis youth for walwyn is a FR..D! It is you for the BVI. Deal with the problem territory wide. He sending the wrong message for the youth meaning if de youth dem ain't wid he, he is not with dem.

We will have to weed the minister out of office also.

You are entitled to make your points, but you have done so with a great deal of disrespect, and then you will complain about the lack of respect shown by our youth. Model the behavior you want to see!!!

Stop blaming every dam thing on government take time out and groom your out of control kids.we have to all make this country better not only the Ministers and government.

I agree with weed. The Minister need to focus on a territory wide program for youth with bad behavior and criminal intent. His way of debate is just as bad as the kids fighting on the streets. His Youth for Walwyn is not living up to what he is trying to accomplish and his focus is not territory but more about him.

"Daring" - stop celebrating this Gangster culture!

Praises that there was no bloodshed - are you for real? Understandable, bothersome - why are you using these words? This is children fighting with weapons!

Wow. I applaud the brave persons who tried to keep the peace that is very commendable! Praise God no one got hurt. Nevertheless, I think that youths who fight in school uniform outside of the school grounds should also be suspended.

Where was the police in all this. Police quick to the scene when there is a small car accident looking important with their tape measure and spray can. But when there is serious matters they are no where to be seen.

When there is a small car accident, you are quick to call the police - it's all about "you". There is something in it for you.

When it's a fight etc. "you" want to watch it, so no one bothers to call the police. There is nothing in it for you.

I am certainly no fan of Mr. Walwyn's, but how can he be held responsible for this? Our entire community is responsible! The adults who stood around and made no attempt to put a stop to it are responsible. The bus driver who watched and then drove off is responsible. ANYONE who saw what was going on and did not call the police or who did nothing is responsible!

WE are responsible for what takes place in our community. Parents, relatives, friends and churches are responsible for not instilling proper values and holding children responsible for their own actions. Myron Walwyn, unless he was there and did nothing about it is no more responsible than the rest of us.

We DESPERATELY need a juvenile detention center. The sooner the better.

What does this have to do with Myron? I didn't know he was in-charge of disciplining peoples children.. Or I didn't get the memo? Smh.. Get from here with that BS!

Cay do you think before you write what does this have to do with Myron this happen outside the school compound Parents need to take more active roles in their children lives the children are the ones who are ruling the children am a parent and I don't care how old my child is once they disrespect me my hand is doing the talking that is why their is no respect for one another.Parents train your children right

How did Myron get in this? There is nobody to blame except for the two individuals who were fighting. They BOTH have brains (don't know how functional) that send messages to their nerves, causing them to move their limbs and fight. Discipline starts in the HOME. No government can force any parent or child to do anything they do not want to do. Yall are SOOOO sickening now. Bringing these dam politicians name in EVERYTHING!! THEY ARE NOT GOD! THEY CANNOT PERFORM MIRACLES!!

Hello, this is not the Minister of Education's problem. This is the problem of parenting and a society who looks outside of ourselves for everything and who rely on our money and prosperity and not GOD. The education system can only use what we send to them for them to produce. It begins and ends at home. The education system and the teachers get the middle. GET GOD BACK INTO YOUR HOMES and you will see the difference in your children overtime when they go to school.

The parents have no control. The discipline they grew up with under their old fashion parents they are not instilling in their children. Teach them right from wrong. The same way they are arguing and cussing and fighting the other children could be the same way they are fighting arguing and cussing their parents and the parents sit by and allow it. Discipline your children. You should never give up on them or they would bring shame to you. If these boys knew they would get a good scolding when they get home from their parents, they would never behave that way in public. Just saying...

First of all the parents should have drop kick their behind after the fight. Then any school Children get caught with weapons is automatic suspension and hard labour. Cut Grass paint a house or something and if they don't comply its jail time. Police need to get on this quick. No civility. Get on their behind and get them to the station. The whole dam issue is, parents and teachers looking friends and they need to understand, its a line that is never cross. You child is your child, and you don't beg and plead with them. Bust their behind quick and fast when they get out of order.

To the young men that parted the two clowns: Thank you very much for risking your lives and safety and saving not one but two lives (as lacking in sense as they were) that day. While most every other person watched on, you chose to act and saved everyone from a tragedy that would have affected numerous people. Especially to the young man that got between them while they were holding lethal weapons, I think you deserve a medal of honour, or at least some formal recommendation for your actions. Kudos to you both!
Off the side: Next time just knock both of them out

This matter is now one for the police to deal with as serious offences were committed. Also the Education Dept. has to take certain actions as it involved school children.
