ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The annual feature that sees all the Rotary Clubs in the Territory coming together as a family unit took place yesterday October 13, 2014 as they presented some 500 dictionaries to students of the main Islands of the Territory.

Groups travelled to Anegada, Jost Van Dyke and Virgin Gorda while there were those who remained on Tortola for the distribution when this news site caught up with the group at the Althea Scatliffe Primary School where the largest number was said to have been handed out.

On the spot as a Member of the Rotary Club of Tortola and at the same time being the Minister responsible for Education Honourable Myron V. Walwyn challenged the students to make reading a habit and not to see the devises of computers, IPhones and other smart phones as substitutes for reading.

"What the IPad and the technology should do is open up other avenues for you to find more information, but it is not be used as a substitute for reading," said Hon Walwyn. As a motivator to the students of the Althea Scatliffe Primary School and in conjunction with the observation of “Reading is Fun” activity week he has committed to presenting a child with a personal gift for reading the most books.

To enter the competition children of the school will have to inform the Principal of the school about the books read and give a summary of the stories. At the end of the week the student that reads the most books and effectively give an oral summary of each book will be the winner of the prize. The Principal is the sole judge.

Rotary's Assistant Governor for the Virgin Islands, Mrs. Delma Maduro, Past District Governor and member of the Rotary Club of Road Town Mr Vance Lewis, President of Rotary Club of Tortola and President of the Rotary Club Sunrise Mrs Jean Vanterpool among other members of the clubs were present at the Althea Scatliffe leg of the distribution.

Mrs Maduro told the children of the Rotary Family’s commitment towards education as she told them how important words are in building one’s vocabulary. Mr Creque told them of the newness of the dictionary since it is the edition which contains most of the modern day coined words. Ms Vanterpool encouraged the students to join the early act club of Rotary and Mr Lewis told them that reading cover to cover of a dictionary can also be fun.

Hope he "starts" by speaking proper English.

I won't try to correct the rest of your sentence because it does not make sense.

I would say though that the proper pronoun is "our" and not "we" , as in "our House".

Get it right if you are going to criticize someone's grammar.

Now i see why the minister wants all donations to the schools passed thru the ministry? It's because he wants the political mileage.

Too bad the Rotary's public service is being met witch such negativity from the general public.

I hope the children put the dictionaries to good use.
