ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – With the view that learning should be continuously stimulated, although to a different degree when school is closed after the various terms, twin educators Sharie B. de Castro and Sharia B. de Castro are set to kick start a ‘summer’ programme for the 2015 period titled ‘Brain Machine’.

Speaking to Sharie B. de Castro, she said the Brain Machine 2015 idea came about when thinking about the widely accepted notion that it is okay for children to take a break from learning during the summer months. “This is entirely not true,” de Castro said. “In fact, our aim through this programme is to emphasise that children’s brains are like machines that must be kept on.”

Sharia went on to explain, “Of course, a machine being overworked can cause it to crash. Therefore, the idea is to train the brain in a less rigorous way than the sometimes overwhelming approach during the school year. Our aim is to mask instruction as much as possible with play so that children are engaged and excited about learning, even during the summer.”

Below is the layout of the ingenious programme as set out by the de Castro sisters and which they have willingly shared for the benefit of all.

Brain Machine 2015

Keep your child's brain switched on this summer. Research shows that children may lose some of what they've learned throughout the school year during the long summer break. Children are removed completely from a learning environment causing the brain machine to switch off or go into sleep mode from being inactive for too long. It's like they say, "Use it or lose it!"

Programme Parts:

Brain Food:

Eat smart - A recipe for good readers. Are children starving their brains? Feeding your brain is as important as feeding your body. Books are brain food. They make children think and reflect. Like your body, your brain needs a balanced diet. Give your child the opportunity to learn the best reading recipes this summer.

Brain Storm:

Writers Forecast: Thoughtful, Organised, Creative Writing. Use this summer to prepare your child with the skills necessary to write effectively. Your child will be challenged to grow and build self-confidence as writers in an environment designed to inspire creativity.

Brain Power:

Multiply your child's math ability. Your child's math confidence will add up as they learn the “why” and “how” of math. Children will focus on general areas of the subject from different angles. Broaden the parameters of your child's mind and give him/her the chance to solve their own math problems.

Brain Child:

Thinkers, Doers, Innovators. Little Entrepreneurs: Small people with big ideas. Invest in your child's future by giving them the opportunity to acquire basic business skills that will challenge them to look at things differently by critically thinking about issues and developing ideas to create solutions.

Brain Games:

Give children's brain a work out by playing fun games that sharpen the mind and train the brain through memory, concentration, problem-solving and other skills. Our goal is to train the brain. The brain is like any other muscle in our body. If you train it, stretch it and flex it your brain will become stronger and you will be a better problem solver and a more creative writer.

Brain Machine 2015 will be held from July 6 - 31, 2015 from 9 am - 3pm at the Write to Read (3rd Floor of E.A. Creaque building on Main Street).

"A surprise programme part is slated for August 10 – 21, 2015. After a very successful Egg-sperts Easter Camp, one can expect this year’s summer camp to be successful also. Call 441-5592 or 442-7335 for more information and registration. Limited spaces are available,” the twin sisters stated.

@bvi, why is it people have to live for what others believe in and not what they believe in. Sharie stood for what she believed in. Next election you need to put yourself up so that you and your family that you claim Sharie let down can vote for you. Hope you don't let them down.
