CARROT BAY, Tortola, VI- Carrot Bay fisherman Zacchari W. Stoutt did well to defend his turf in the swimming and greasy pole events at the Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta Last Lap on Saturday, August 12, 2023.

Zacchari, who is the son of Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta Honouree Albert Stoutt, zipped through the waters to finish ahead of five other swimmers in a sprint race.

He; however, received stiff competition from his brother Andrew W. Stoutt, while his father Albert placed third.

In a longer race, that saw three competitors, Zacchari cruised to victory. Second was a female swimmer.

Zacchari also won the swimming competition last year.

Greasy Pole Competitions

In the Greasy Pole Competitions, the victories were shared.

Johnike Rivera literally glided his way to victory in the 1st Flag Freestyle, as he put his stomach and chest on the line to get to the end of the pole to capture the flag.

Zacchari then took victory in the Last Lap Flag, as he slid his way to the end of the pole like a figure skater and then grabbed the flag before falling overboard.

In lieu of the annual horse races at SCB, the Carrot Bay cultural committee should organize their aquatic sports for August Tuesday. This should also entail the boat races as well. It will be a well spent day instead of having nothing to do.

the boat race is not put on nor sponsored by the CB cultural committee, and I cannot se that being moved to August Tuesday.
