Youth fined for ganja possession
According to the allegations, young had 2.3g of cannabis in his possession on December 14, 2013.
Young, the owner of a red Terios jeep, was stopped at 11PM on the day in question by Police while they were on routine patrol.
Officers parked alongside the vehicle and received a strong scent of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Young was the driver at the time and there were other occupants in the vehicle.
An officer requested a search and told Young of his suspicions. The defendant exited the vehicle and a marijuana cigarette dropped from his lap. He reportedly admitted that the cigarette was his.
Nothing illegal was found on him or any of the other occupants at the time.
A burnt marijuana cigarette was found on the floor of the right back seat of the vehicle and a watch container was found with a black bag with green vegetable matter. The defendant admitted the drug belonged to him and was later charged for the offence of possession.
Young told the court that he wanted a chance as a first time offender since the amount was small and he admitted to the items found by police.
He was fined $250 and given 48 hours to pay the fine of face an alternative of 14 days in prison.
