ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The teenager who was allegedly brutalised by police on March 6, 2015 has been taken into custody and charges laid against him.

The student of the Elmore Stoutt High School was reportedly taken into police custody sometime this afternoon, March 16, 2015.

Virgin Islands News Online also made contact with relatives of the young man and they confirmed that they received word of his arrest. They, however, couldn’t say whether he was arrested during or after school.

The family had alleged that the teen during the night of March 6, 2015 was at a popular spot in the West End Community accessing WIFI signal when he ran after others did upon noticing police officers approaching them.

It was reported that police managed to apprehend the teen and allegedly used excessive force on the young man, including using a Taser gun on him. They also allegedly stripped the lad and left with his clothing.

But the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) via its Public Relations Unit reported that while there was a report of such allegations against the police, the lawmen had another side to the story which alleged that the teen had stripped himself and escaped their grasp. They also alleged that they found illegal drugs in the teen's clothing.

According to the RVIPF, "‎Police is investigating an incident which occurred at Little Apple Bay area last evening (March 6, 2015). Officers on mobile patrol conducted a search of one person and a quantity of drugs recovered. Investigations are continuing as the person escaped lawful custody. Police are also conducting investigation into a complaint against police resulting from the incident."

Meanwhile, RVIPF Public Relations Officer Diane Drayton confirmed to Virgin Islands News Online that the teen had been arrested.

“Yes, I can confirm that the 17-year-old has been arrested and a number of charges have been laid, including escaping lawful custody and unlawful possession of marijuana,” Drayton said this evening, March 16, 2015.

This news site will bring further details as they become available.

Yeah, that look like Barb Wire scratches or from bushes. Some scratches, some bruised up knees, all in a day's work... I bet you he'll think twice next time. Good job officers.... Show me some black eyes or busted up lips, than maybe, just maybe I'll consider it brutal..

It always saddens when there is so much support for the young criminals. What sort of society does this bring. No parental responsibility and no respect for law and order.

    this article is lone jokes

"was at a popular spot in the West End Community accessing WIFI signal when he ran after others did upon noticing police officers approaching them."

So they just turn off running when they see police? THAT MAKES NO SENSE. NOBODY INNOCENT runs because they see police coming.

"It was reported that police managed to apprehend the teen and allegedly used excessive force on the young man, including using a Taser gun on him. They also allegedly stripped the lad and left with his clothing."

the police catch him, taser him strip him and scratch him up? All the while he was just standing there not resisting or anything? So the police just taser somebody that's cooperating? LOL

"Officers on mobile patrol conducted a search of one person and a quantity of drugs recovered."

OOOOHHHHH so that's why he ran.. smh

I agree with you, and if it was my child I would beat he lil butt when he get home; that's what you get for allegedly playing drug dealer.. now learn and stay in school. Parents need not only provide shelter and clothing for their child and simply spoil them but teach them manners and teach them about what is wrong and what is right. We also have to support them and also be the ears that listens to their problem so they seek your advice and not that of an uneducated/ inexperienced youth!

I wish a real man would create a group in the school (mandatory attendance) to speak to these young boys and guide them in the right direction. We need to realize that these are the men of the future. What will become of this small island if we do not reach out and save our youths???

this is just pure nonsense! If the youth had drugs on him at the time why did the police not take him into custody right there and then. Charges come two weeks later? Police interview the boy with no family member present? Pure corruption! No wonder a majority of the force has an internal petition for the investigation of the allegedly corrupt faction of the RVIPF.

All of this for a joint? Tasered the youth and still couldn't apprehend him? This is a case where there are 3 sides to a story and sadly we won't know the truth!

Dispute and inspire of our hatred for authority I would ask if any of you bloggers will go to the court as character witness for the chap. The police pass that area every night back and forth so why he running as if he never see Police before the question of how soon the officers files charges and interview the chap is here nor there. Obviously the reason his family went to the media is to have this matter be judged by the bloggers with the majority expressing their disgust, distrust and hate for the Police especially those from the other islands. As prudence should have it due to this great upheaval it is sometime wiser to let some time passed on such a matter and if the parents were not there at the interview as it may prove to be an invitation for an escalation in the matter anomie other entity had to be sought. I guess he felt untouchable because of the hits the story received. Well the magistrate will hear the full and will determine the final outcome.

I dont see why in 2015, marijuana is still illegal, ffs its a plant, at 17 being criminialized for alleged possesion is ridiculous, regardless of if he was using it to relax or chill, tbh id try to leg it as well but thesecharges hes facing, these years are vital to a young mans life, is he going to be spending couple months in jail (if he was 18) or bail is just pointless, these scratches and allegations of police brutality could have all been avioded. However you cant expect to run and not get brusied, that one he called on himself .
