ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Young Virgin Islanders and Belongers took part in a four-day Standard Workforce Readiness Training under the theme ‘Build Skills. Gain Confidence. Prepare for the Workforce’.

The training session organised by the Department of Labour and Workforce Development, April 7 to 10, 2026, began with an opening ceremony, during which Deputy Labour Commissioner Ms Felina Moss told participants this was not just another training but an opportunity to reset, refocus and take international steps toward their future.

“Whether you are currently employed, exploring your next move, or trying to figure out where you fit in the world of work, you are exactly where you need to be.”

This program was designed with them in mind, she added, explaining that they will gain practical, real-world skills that employers are looking for.

“We’re talking about building the skills that make you stand out, gaining confidence, because sometimes the biggest barrier is not ability, it’s belief in yourself. Preparing for the world of work, so you know what to expect and how to succeed.”

Career building sessions

Participants engaged in sessions about understanding workplace professionalism, strengthening career readiness skills, improving communication and interpersonal skills, and personal development for long-term success.

“Opportunities don’t always come knocking twice; what you learn here today could be the difference between staying where you are and moving forward,” Ms Moss further encouraged.

The training was facilitated by Mr Arvan Hodge (BVITB), Mr Devern Davis (DLWD), Mr Albert Wheatley (Director, Teams Solutions BVI Ltd.), Mrs Ishell Hodge Stevens (Assistant Director of Human Resources), Mr Kevin Fahie (General Manager, Caribbean Cellars), Mr Leonardo Callwood (DLWD), and Ms Kadian S. Farquharson (Corporate Trainer, HireBVI).
