ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Following the recent Anti-Crime Summit, a group of dynamic young leaders has taken bold action to fill a critical gap in youth engagement across the Virgin Islands.

Recognising that few programmes exist to meaningfully engage younger children, seven forward-thinking individuals - Jonathan Hing, Dr J’Moi Saunders - Corea, Alec Leonard, Mikkel Bassue, Mickquann Bassue, Dekoi Corea, Linessa Caesar, Amir Harris and Amelia Phillip have joined forces to make a difference.

Their first initiative, The Educational Bus Tour, is set to roll out an exciting, hands-on experience designed for children between the ages of 7 and 13. The tour blends exploration, learning, and entertainment, providing participants with a memorable journey that sparks curiosity and fosters community pride.

Children will enjoy an engaging safari bus ride that doubles as a mobile classroom, offering opportunities to meet and interact with local leaders, including government ministers and the Director of Tourism. Along the way, participants will take part in interactive educational activities, games, and team-building exercises, while enjoying good food and fellowship in a safe, supervised setting.

“We wanted to do something meaningful, something that shows kids that learning can be fun and that they have an important place in shaping the future of our islands,” said Jonathan Hing, one of the initiative’s organisers. “This is about planting seeds of hope, leadership, and community spirit.”

The Educational Bus Tour is just the beginning of what these organisers envision as a series of creative programmes tailored to different age groups. Their mission is clear: to empower young people, strengthen community connections, and provide positive alternatives that nurture the next generation of leaders.

“The Anti-Crime Summit inspired us to act,” added Mikkel Bassue. “We realised that creating opportunities for youth engagement early on can have a lasting impact, not only on individuals but on the entire community.”

The organisers invite parents, schools, and community partners to support this exciting new venture and join them in building a brighter, more empowered future for the Virgin Islands’ youth.
