BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- Host of Honestly Speaking, Pastor Claude O. Skelton-Cline, has encouraged Virgin Islanders to re-engage in critical thinking.

During his final show for 2025 on December 23, 2025, on ZBVI 780 AM, titled, ‘Are you thinking or just repeating?’, Skelton-Cline said that with all of the information out there, some are simply just repeating what they hear without fact-checking.

“Not many of us are thinking, we’re simply repeating what others are saying and especially when it’s poor or bad or mis or disinformation. It’s important that we re-engage in our critical thought; it’s important that we begin again…to think for ourselves and to think critically.”

Use your devices to do your own research

Skelton-Cline referenced what is happening around the world and even closer to home with the United States and Venezuela.

“With all of the information that’s available to us, we cannot simply be repeating what the powers are telling us. More often than not, what the powers at be are telling us are lies, it’s not true, it’s misdirection, it’s misinformation, it’s half information.”

He encouraged people to use their devices for more than scrolling on social media like TikTok.

“You got to use it for more than that, you got to probe, you got to read, you got to study, you got to listen. You have to engage in critical thinking and stop repeating everything you hear some say and treating it as if it is truth.”

CSL’s various proclamations over the years provide scant evidence of his own critical thinking skills. Speech is silver but silence is gold, especially his.

So what is happening in Venezuela? didnt hear peep from anyone when Maduro was only threatining but already moving troops into Guyana to take their Oil, and Guyana is a member of Caricom. Indeed you are right we must think critically but part of that is not an automatic reflexive reaction to the US being in venezuela simply because its a "white man" or a western power. I am no apologist for Trump or his actions but Maduro does not automatically get a pass because he is of a of a precieved minority status either. Its this kind of thinking that will continue to keep Africa in the state that it is in . Because no matter how agregious an African leaders action we can always point to a western country and say but look what they did 400 years ago and so..... etc. We must start holding nation leaders accountable for their actions today .
