‘You cannot be 16, 17, 18 getting pregnant!’- Skelton-Cline to young girls
“We need to have honest conversations with our young people. You know, children getting children,” Skelton-Cline said during Honestly Speaking on ZBVI 780 AM on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
He said while these types of conversations need to be directed to both girls and boys, because of the “chauvinistic, masochistic, patriarchal society” we live in, young men can often get away with things the young women cannot.
“That’s wrong; it’s unjust, but that’s unfortunately a part of the reality.”
Speaking on several topics affecting Virgin Islands youth, Skelton-Cline lamented that he encountered many pregnant young girls at the Lavida Cottoy Festiville.
Young girls, he advised, should not be pressured into sleeping with every boyfriend they have. “Don’t let that joker convince you that you don’t love him unless he gets in your underwear.”
Delinquent parenting?
Skelton-Cline said it is not enough to speak about these issues as they are not new.
“You cannot be 16, 17, 18 getting pregnant and you ain’t married. No, no, you cannot. Do not get pregnant. If you can’t keep your legs closed and your skirt down, then don’t let nobody jump up and down on you like you some kind of trampoline with no protection.”
Skelton-Cline added that there is “delinquent parenting” at some houses, and said he is bringing these issues up and dishing out advice not to humiliate anyone but because he loves them.
“You have a tremendously bright future, but you can derail, you can delay, and/or you can deny yourself of the future that God has destined for you by choices you make right now.”
