HUNTUM’S GHUT, Tortola, VI- Minister for Communications and Works Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) has encouraged young persons in the Virgin Islands (VI) to see value in themselves.

Hon Rymer gave remarks at the Youth Rally and Launch of the Anti-Crime Summit on Friday, August 15, 2025.

A march from the Road Town Police Station to the Huntum’s Ghut Basketball Court began Friday’s activities.

The heartbeat of our community- Hon Rymer

“To the young people gathered here, you’re not just statistics; you are the heartbeat of our community,” Hon Rymer encouraged.

He told the young people that their talents, dreams and choices will determine what comes next for them.

He further encouraged them, saying, “Choose learning, choose mentorship, choose art, sports, or just work hard.”

Step in

The Minister also urged the youth to speak up for others and to "step in" if they see someone in danger.

To the adults, he said, “If you’re a parent or a trusted adult, ask and make sure we know exactly what these children are going through, be part of their lives.”

The Youth Rally and Launch also featured anti-crime testimonies from community members.

A theme song, called ‘Rise Up’ by Eustace C. Freeman aka 'Boss', for the upcoming Anti-Crime Summit to be held from September 25 to 26, 2025, was also released on Friday.

“I wrote this song, thinking about every one of you in the BVI,” Freeman said, “We’re going through a real tough time right now.”

Screwed?. Not all the youths, don't wash your mouth on mine they are well rounded and respetable. For sure you won't walk all over them for they have a voice and it needs to be heard. Everybody just jumping on the young people of this territory.

Yes we have those that don't care and don't want to listen, but have you or others try to find the root cause. No but you here speaking doom on other people children. Please stop it.

It takes a village to raise a child some of you involved in a lot of things and involving the youths making them to be the way they are. Stop turning a blind eye because you can gain from them. Instead teach them the right from wrong then and only then you are investing in their lives. Let us all make this territory a better place to live in. Some youths only need a listening ear. The question are you prepared to listen to them. Sometimes we have to put our money where our mouth is. Dig in your pockets, purses and bank to reach them at their point of need. You hurting but they are hurting also. To much bitterness and disrespect towards the youths. Just stop it please this includes even in the house of assembly because even their listening to debates the war is on. Example set Example follow. all of us can do better. Let us pledge to do better

What an uplifting rally! Hon Rymer’s words really highlight the importance of supporting young people and encouraging them to step up, follow their dreams, and look out for one another.
  • Wow, the Virgin Islands are tackling youth crime head-on! Hon Rymer's words are powerful, urging young people to find their value. Seems like a vital initiative to inspire positive choices. I remember when my younger brother started hanging out with the wrong crowd. We felt helpless until a mentor at the community center stepped in and really turned things around for him. That man was a true Block Breaker in our lives, showing my brother a different path. A similar community effort is inspiring.
