NAIL BAY, Virgin Gorda, VI- At least two yachts were apparently swept off course and ended up running aground in the Nail Bay area of Virgin Gorda on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.

There were no reports of injuries.

It is unclear what exactly were the circumstances surrounding the incidents; however, the Virgin Islands is under a high wind advisory through Friday, January 26, 2024.

According to the Department of Disaster Management (DDM), this means that sustained winds 25-31 miles per hour are either occurring or imminent.

The sea conditions yesterday, according to DDM, were 2.1 to 3.4 metres (7 to 11 feet), occasionally or locally reaching near 4.5 metres (15 feet).

15 foot waves is significant. With a small craft advisory these folks need to stay in port or protected harbours
