LITTLE APPLE BAY, Tortola, VI- BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) workers, along with persons from an overseas company, are hard at work to replace the damaged undersea cable that has caused Jost van Dyke (JvD) to be disconnected from the electricity grid on Tortola.

Electricity to the sister island was interrupted in September of last year when an undersea cable broke and caused the people of JvD to be on a generator. The use of the temporary generator has been costing the Corporation thousands of dollars in diesel.

Work on restoring JvD to the BVIEC grid on Tortola started yesterday and is presently ongoing.

It is unclear how long the work will take or the cost to fix the problem.

Divers have been on the scene doing the necessary work to reconnect the cable.

We will bring more details as they become available.

As repair work on the submarine cable commenced, I hope the people of JVD will guard the cable to ensure vessels traverse the area carefully and avoid damage to the cable. Well done Hon. Kyle Rhymer and B.V.I.EC.
