Work on Virgin Gorda Market Square to begin soon- Hon Vincent O. Wheatley
This project is significant for the government and is part of the Ministry of Communications and Works initiatives, with funding sourced from the economic zone project.
In a Facebook video during a tour led by Hon Wheatley, he noted that the area has been in a dilapidated state for quite some time. He mentioned that the market project has been in discussion since the 1970s and early 1980s.
Market space will serve several purposes
“What we're doing this year is reimagining the Virgin Islands market space. The market will serve several purposes: farmers will be able to showcase their produce, and others can sell clothing, books, and more. It will also bring people together for conversations,” he stated.
He added that an entertainment area would be included in the new market space, highlighting a section where performances can take place. “This area will serve as a stage where you can have performances, such as those from school bands and fungi bands,” he explained.
Hon Wheatley mentioned, “There will be vending stalls along the fence, and inside, we envision spaces for fresh fish, meats, frozen goods, and more.”
Plan to be completed by next week
He stated that plans are currently being drafted and are expected to be completed as early as next week, adding that once the plans are finalised, funding should already be available through the economic zone project, allowing construction to commence as quickly as possible.
Hon Wheatley expressed excitement about this development for the Virgin Islands, stating, “Farmers and vendors will have a dedicated space where they can come, whether for one day or every day, to showcase their products. All the farmers will be in one location.”
He estimates that the construction of this project should take no more than four to five months.

Real need → ignored
Versus Our priorities→ Not prioritized
Money → spent

fisher men market should be close to the sea. each fisher man should be assigned a number for a stall in that market. there should be running water and electricity which should be in each stall.
fruit and vegetable markets for local farmers should be a bit different. each farmer should have their area to advertise their produce. these produce markets should be located in a covered structure with stalls and same way running water and electricity.
virgin gorda was once the capital of the bvi and most of the historical buildings and sights are left unattended, we have a senior citizens home still in a wooden shed next to the pwd and basically on the main road with all the noise from the traffic at night and day.
we as citizens of this small but beautiful island have allow political greed get the best of what we should have as priority.
on the camp road there is a section that is by the junction by the entrance to the resevor that is underminded by the heavy raine some years ago. this road is falling and no one seems to care . we have tourist and heave trucks driving onthis section of road every day and no one is paying attention to it until it collapes and hurt some one.
district 9 and the people of district9 that have the ability to look out for the benefit of the people and island is not doing what they were put in politics to do to better this island.
stop giving out contracts to friends and lining other ppl pockets with monies to get them out of financial situations and nothing is being done to helt our island or to advance it to the era it should be.
there are many other topics to be mensitned but lets wait for election to get closer . politicans dont remember what they promise when campaigning and trying to fool the ppl of the country.
a good politician is one that never make pronises , try to listen to thepeople of the soil, treat every one as they are the same, have your people and district best interest at heart, stop looking for kick back in finance or favor by giving government contracts to close friends and families.
