Woman pleads not guilty to common assault
Magistrate Valerie Stephens presided as Crown counsel Sara Benjamin stated that on March 31, 2012, around 11am, at O’Neal’s Gas Station in Road Town, Ms. Harrigan and two other ladies, one being the Virtual complainant (VC) in the case, were standing and talking.
Ms. Benjamin, in reading the facts of the matter, told the court, that allegedly, the defendant made a comment saying “women jealous each other for what they have.”
Crown Counsel Benjamin added that in response to the comment made by Ms. Harrigan, the VC allegedly said “I always nice to people and I don’t watch people for what they have.”
The court understood that the defendant got disturbed by the VC’s comment and allegedly started making negative comments towards the VC.
Allegedly, the conversation between the two got heated, and the defendant began choking the VC.
The court heard, that when Ms. Harrigan was approached by police officers, she allegedly told them that the VC called her a ‘black Haitian mother****’.
The matter was adjourned until November 8, 2012.
