ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- It may seem that even using the pedestrian crossing may not guarantee a safe crossing to the other side of a road as one woman may have learned on October 1, 2012.

News reaching Virgin Islands News Online by our ever present team of reporters is that a woman was hit while crossing the road in the vicinity of the Digicel Store in Road Town.

According to reports, the woman was allegedly on the pedestrian crossing when she was struck by a vehicle. She was reportedly seen sitting for some time after being hit but did not appear to have been seriously injured.

The incident reportedly occurred around 3:30 P.M.

90% of the drivers do not understand how to drive over a pedestrian crossing, yet it is so simple. Leave plenty of room behind the car in front of you. Do not stop within 10 feet either side of a pedestrian crossing. Stop when someone is about to or appears about to cross the road. Slow down as you approach a pedestrian crossing. Anticipate the actions of others.

If you cant do that then please hang up the car keys

@lack of education, could you now educate the pedestrians? It goes both way.

I hope you dont have a licence - you are a prime example of the point i was trying to make. Pedestrians have the right of way on a pedestrian crossing, not drivers!

people crossing the road need to wait till the vehicle come to a complete stop and not just walk cross the road. Just saying

I realise that about 90%-95% of the drivers on these islands are not road friendly and pedestrian friendly...but also the pedestrians walk any where in the road as well so it goes both ways
