GREENLAND, Tortola, VI- With a hard-fought 4-2 victory over Panthers FC, at the weekend, Wolues slid quietly into second place in the standings and within five points of Islanders FC with three games in hand.

Hugo Costa Liziario netted a brace whilst Abner Villanueva and Phillip Nelson were also on the scoresheet.

“It wasn't our greatest performance,” commented Nelson, “but we always felt like the victory would be ours. Large parts of the game were played in their half which was pleasing, and it could have been more, but three points is really all we wanted. Each time we conceded we hit back quickly, which showed a good mentality from the team. We are still getting back into it after a break but that is another 90 minutes under our belts, and we will look for a good performance in the next game.”

That game is against VG United who are on thirty-one points and sit in third place behind the Wolues, who have thirty-three points.

Lion Heart upset VG United

Lion Heart FC dented the hopes of the title-chasing VG with a 1-0 victory, the first suffered by VG this year last Sunday, courtesy of a strike from Bishon Richards, which kept them in the hunt for a top-four finish as they are now level on points with Sugar Boys FC, but with games in hand.

One Love & Rebels draw

One Love FC and Rebels FC shared a six-goal thriller at the East End / Long Look stadium venue as Julian Davidson scored the equalizer for One Love in the ninth minute of added time at the end of the game. Earlier, Latreil Williams netted a brace whilst the goals for Rebels came from Lashawn Emanuel Gibbs, Sheldon Toney and Curtly Peters.

"We started off on the front foot and dominated the first half,” commented One Love’s Javon Carty. “They came back at us strong, and a lack of fitness began to show as they went ahead. However, we got a second win and pushed hard for the equalizer which thankfully came late on.”

Sugar Boys hammer Positive

Meanwhile, Sugar Boys routed Positive FC 7-0, with the game halted at the halfway point as Positive didn’t have the minimum requirement of seven players to start the second half.

Keron Daniel, Rolland Roberts, Alejandro Sanchez (2), Coan Lockhart (2) and Derol Redhead were the scorers.

“The game unfortunately ended at the break as we were looking to score as many goals as possible,” noted Redhead.

“We only have a couple of games to go and needed to boost our goal difference and finish in the top four. Winning our last games won’t be easy, but with hard work we will come out successful and reach the postseason.”

Wolues women overpower Rebels

In the Women’s National League, Wolues moved into top spot with a 7-0 demolition of Rebels FC.

Goals came from Catrin Jones, who scored a hattrick, Eva Carey and Darci Reich, both of whom netted twice.
