MEYERS ESTATE, Tortola, VI – Promising to start radical reforms in the Second District as soon as she is elected to office, Second District (D2) candidate on the Virgin Islands Party 2023 elections slate, Ms Marieta C. Flax-Headley last evening, March 30, 2023, officially launched her campaign in the district.

Ms Flax-Headley, speaking at the campaign launch at Rudy's Lookout in Meyers Estate, Tortola, said after talking to members of the community, needs have been identified and to ensure that the aspirations for this district come to fruition, she needs their help in getting to the House of Assembly.

“Top of the list is water woes [and] Infrastructure, which includes the overall look of the district. As it relates to lighting, trash removal, historical site, green spaces, and our roads. Our senior gems, schools, and at-risk students, the differently abled in our community are just a few that were mentioned to me as I journeyed through the district.”

A woman 'for all residents' of D2

Ms Flax-Headley, a former school principal, said the cries of the Second District have been heard and will not go unattended as she is a fighter and is known to get the job done.

“I will give it my all for not just some of the residents, I repeat not just for some, but for all the residents of District 2. Once I'm sworn in in the 5th House of Assembly as your district representative, one by one we will tackle our issues. Yes, I said we because I need you on this journey with me, as we move forward together,” she said.

Ms Flax-Headley added that together, they can make the Second District a district that we all can be proud of, "with Marieta and Team VIP, District Two will become a district like no other. Establishing a district office on Tortola and Jost van Dyke is paramount, residents must and should always have access to their representatives,” she added.

Constant water supply a top priority

Meanwhile, Flax-Headley added that when in office, it is also important to find ways to bring consistent water supply to residents of the district, given the current challenges.

She also said there is a need for a beautification initiative as the territory is a mecca for tourism and there is a need to maintain a clean environment.

The VIP D2 candidate also proposed the rehabilitation of local community centers as well as the need for more programmes for seniors, and youths, monitoring of beaches, and the upgrading and maintenance of local infrastructure, not only in the district but around the entire VI, amongst other issues.

Flax-Headley's opponents for the D2 seat are the incumbent Hon Melvin M. Turnbull of Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) and Mr Troy E. Christopher.

One commonality amongst the candidates is:

      1. They get people to write fancy SCRIPTS

      2. Never saw them before now ALL OF A SUDDEN IT’S PHOTO-OPS WITH THE YOUTHS, etc.

      3. They think we’re dumb enough to vote for them based on recycled speeches of “this and that going be done”

      4. All of you are ANNOYING!!!!

That may be true at times but not in this case. This woman is the real deal. If she did not present herself well you would have been on here condemning her. Now that she has presented excellent you still find fault. I love her speech and her positive drive.

Every one of the politicians writes a good story to get elected and then does nothing. It all comes down to who can write the better script, get elected, and then DUH!

Whilst many think that her speech was good that is just their opinion and just like them my opinion is that she is going to be third in D2 race.
