WICKHAM’S CAY I, Tortola, VI- The Pier Park Fun Zone is currently in operation at Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park from 6:00 PM - 11:00 PM, offering families an affordable and engaging holiday experience into New Year’s Day.

The attraction follows shipping challenges that prevented the traditional Christmas Coney Island Village from arriving this season, prompting a shift toward a community-driven alternative that is now fully underway.

Through partnerships with eight local businesses, the Pier Park Fun Zone delivers a wide range of amusement-style activities alongside food and beverage options, ensuring continued seasonal entertainment for residents and visitors.

Activities include plush ride-ons, trains, carousels, bouncy houses, dart throwing, axe throwing, boxing and basketball games, as well as a virtual reality experience geared toward older children. All rides and activities are priced at $5 and under, making the Fun Zone accessible to families throughout the season.

‘Strength of partnerships’

Deputy CEO Zoe J. Walcott underscored the importance of adaptability and collaboration in sustaining holiday programming.

“The Pier Park Fun Zone reflects the strength of partnerships with local businesses and our ability to respond quickly when circumstances change,” Walcott said. “It allows us to continue providing a welcoming, family-friendly environment during the holidays.”

Walcott added that while this season presented unforeseen challenges, the continuity of programming reflects the groundwork “laid over recent years by Kennie Thompson”. That experience, she said, supported a smooth transition, allowing new activities to come together efficiently and maintain momentum.

Winter Wonderland closes tonight

Meanwhile, Visar’s Winter Wonderland skating rink closes tonight, December 28, 2025, making the Pier Park Fun Zone the primary attraction carrying the season forward.

The Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park is also being highlighted as the premier destination for New Year’s Eve celebrations, with the Fun Zone fully operational on the night from 7:00 PM – 1:00 AM.

Children will be able to enjoy their designated play areas while families await the spectacular midnight fireworks, creating a safe and inclusive space to welcome the new year.

Pier Park has extended gratitude for the “generosity of Sponsors” such as the Government of the Virgin Islands, CCT - 284 Media, Caribbean Cellars, House of Luxury, and BVI Tourist Board.

My family and I is visiting from Minnesota where the temperature is brutally cold and freezing. We think it is a wonderful warm Winter land where we can be able to shed layers of heavy clothing and enjoy the warmth of the BVI sunshine.
