ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Defending Champions Guyana Jaquars, Pride and Scorpions all record wins in latest round of Cricket West Indies Regional Four Day Competition

A battling half-century from Kyle Mayers proved to be insufficient in preventing the Barbados Pride from coasting to a 135 runs win over the Windward Islands Volcanoes in the WPCL Regional 4-Day competition at Arnos Vale on Sunday November 19, 2017.

Set a target of 312 to win, the Volcanoes got off to a shaky start once again losing Devon Smith (7) at the top of the innings. Smith’s fellow opener Tyrone Theophile added 22 before being being dismissed Justin Greaves. However, the next two batsmen Kavem Hodge (6) and Roland Cato (8) ffell in quick succession and it seemed there would have been little fight left in the innings.

Mayers hit 9 fours in reaching 76 from 119 balls to delay the Windwards decline, but the resistance was, however, put to an end by Kenroy Williams who had Mayers caught by Shane Mosley.

The off-spinner then wrapped up the match for Barbados, their first win of the campaign, after accounting for the wickets of Gian Benjamin (1), Shane Shillingford (0) and Ray Jordan (6).  In total Williams ended with figures of 4 for 36.

Jaguars maul T&T Red Force

Defending champion Guyana Jaguars coasted to a routine inning and 217 run defeat over Trinidad and Tobago Red Force as the WPCL Regional 4-Day encounter at Brian Lara Stadium came to a close on Sunday.

The Red Force began the day facing defeat squarely in the eyes after a commanding first inning score of 484-8 by the Jaguars and respective T&T batting collapses of 120 all and 106 for 6, after being forced to follow on, left the Jaguars needing just six wickets to win.

Overnight batsmen Irman Khan and Daniel St Clair were the Red Forces’ best hopes of an unlikely salvation, but could not add much more to their overnight totals, both falling victim to the dangerous Veerasammy Permaul. The Guyanese spinner had Khan caught for 28 by Anthony Bramble, before inflicting identical damage on St Clair for an identical score.

Wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin attempted to occupy the crease with his 22 from 80 but ran out of partners as the rest of the lower order were quickly dismissed.

Permaul ended with second innings figures of 5 for 54 and overall match figures of 9 for 97. Keemo Paul also proved to be a terror to the Red Force batting line-up after ending with 4 for 26.

Returning skipper Nikita Miller claimed a match haul of 10 wickets as the Jamaica Scorpions secured a commanding 158 runs win over the Leeward Islands Hurricanes in the WPCL Regional 4-Day competition at Warner Park on Sunday.

Chasing a total of 301 for victory, the Leewards led by 30 apiece from opener Montcin Hodge and Terance Ward crumbled for 144 for 9 in pursuit of the target. In similar circumstances to the first innings Miller proved to be unplayable claiming a second innings haul of 5 for 32. After removing Hodge for 30 at the top of the order, the spinner demolished the Leewards middle order adding Ward, Nkrumah Bonner (3), Jahmah Hamilton (13) and Rahkeem Cornwall to his long list of victims.
