The many patrons that flocked the venue were not disappointed as the primary school students demonstrated extraordinary physical ability and creativity.
Once the entertainment was over, judges Sasha S. Creque, Sylvanna L. Charles, and Sarah Penney had Willard Wheatley Primary School as the top cheerleading school.
The champions pocketed $2000.00 and were also presented a rophy, while all cheerleaders received gold medals.
In second place was Joyce Samuel Primary School who won $1000.00, a trophy and silver medals.
Alexandrina Maduro Primary School took the third spot and received $500.00, a trophy, and bronze medals for all participants.
The other schools that participated were Francis Lettsome Primary School, Isabella Morris Primary School, Ivan Dawson Primary School, Leonora Deville Primary School, and Pelican Gate School. They all received cheerleading pins.
Much more than fun
According to the BVI Cheerleading Committee, it decided to host the Primary School Cheerleading Championship because “we understood that cheerleading is much more than a fun and gratifying sport. It is a tool, which will build character in each participant and they will develop life long attributes that will be applicable through their life journey. These attributes include dedication, discipline, teamwork, and self-confidence.”
The committee further said that the overall development that is available through sports such as cheerleading is one of the two driving forces behind it putting on this competition. The second is physical development, such as coordination, spatial awareness, movement, and motor skills.
“We intend to donate part of the proceeds to the Inter-Primary School Track and Field Championship.”
Meanwhile, the host of the competition was Sophia M. Rubaine-Brooks aka Sophie B and Event Analyst was Antonio Andy Williams.
