Adamson was hopeful of reaching the first round proper in his own right after a surprisingly comfortable 3-0 win over Dion Anselm, but was out played by Trinidad and Tobago’s number one ranked player, Colin Ramasra, in the evening’s second match going down 3-0 in 21 minutes.

However, with one player still to arrive, Mexico’s Salvador Martinez, Adamson was named as the “Lucky Loser” and could well end up facing Nigeria’s Ibrahim Nyanzi in today's June 22, 2012 first round draw.

The morning’s play started with Tom Chapman up against Lee Osborne. Despite taking the first game 11/8, Chapman succumbed in the second game 11/0 and Osborne then took control to take the next two games and the match 11/6, 11/6 for a 3-1 win.

Neville Sorrentino then made light work of Rupert Dean storming to a 3-0 victory 11/6, 11/6, 11/2.

The match that was billed as too close to call was over in quick time with Adamson romping to a 3-0 win over the struggling for consistency Anselm. The first game went to Adamson 11/7, the second 11/6 and after a brief comeback from Anselm the third and decisive game finished 11/9.

The crowd then swelled as Governor Boyd McCleary took the court to face Alex Davidson in another match up that should have been a tight, to the wire finish. However, Governor McCleary was in no mood to hang around and soon had Davidson running all over the court with a succession of deft “inside out” forehands and powerful drives into the corners.

McCleary took the first game 11/5, the second 11/7 and the third 12/10.

So with round one complete, the local players looked forward with some optimism to round two, but those hopes were soon dashed by the quality of the players they were up against.

Osborne was the first to go as he went down 3-0 to Jamaica’s Christopher Binnie. The match lasted just 17 minutes with scores of 11/3, 11/3 and 11/2.

Sorrentino fell to the lithe and agile Nigerian Ibrahim Nyanzi also in straight games 11/6, 11/4 and 11/9.

McCleary just didn’t have the legs to compete with Guatemalan Junior Champion Josue Enriquez as he lost 11/7, 11/7 and 11/9, but there were still glimpses of the magical soft touch and control of the “T”.

Finally, Adamson lost to Ramasra 11/4, 11/6, 11/3, but he still might progress to join Joe Chapman in today’s first round proper and every Tournament always produces a surprise package!
