Who is the Bald Headed Minister?
In a report delivered to the people of his District and by extension the entire VI, Honourable Fahie claimed that a Government Minister with a bald head threatened him by saying, “if the Opposition doesn’t stop asking them questions they would have to go back to the files and try to dig up some kind of dirt and then try to use it to destroy members of the Opposition”.
Do we have Ministers of Government with information or “dirt” that they are not sharing with the public? Notwithstanding that the NDP Government has advocated censorship of the media, we are sure any of the local media houses will enjoy getting ‘dirt’ on any elected official.
While Honourable Fahie has not disclosed any name, this news site went back to look at the official photos for the five Ministers of the NDP Government, as of today January 20, 2014, and we have narrowed down two Ministers whose heads are hairless.
The only two [with a bald head] are the Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Ronnie W. Skelton and Minister for Education and Culture Honourable Myron V. Walwyn.
This news site will not speculate as to which of the two [if any of them] that Honourable Fahie was claiming that threatened him as to date, the First District Representative has not given us a name despite our asking.
Short history of political low blows
Most local political commentators agreed that Honourable Fahie’s description of a Government Minister as “bald headed” was mild compared to what we have heard on the last campaign trail.
The politically charged explosives did not begin on January 18, 2014 at Honourable Fahie’s address. It was when candidate Myron V. Walwyn had described the former Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE and Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Leader, as “an emperor without clothes”.
The former Deputy Premier Dancia Penn QC, OBE, took her mudslinging hit when former NDP Second District Candidate Claude Skelton-Cline referred to her as “an empty kerosene pan”.
In normal times, these comments would be noteworthy only for their mangled syntax.
However, the problem is that the metaphor cuts both ways.
We have never forgotten also the early war of words from the 1999 political campaign when the Honourable Julian Fraser RA, dubbed the NDP the “National Dose of Poison”.
No doubt that within the last 10 to 15 years the hyperbolic rhetoric coming from both sides, NDP and VIP, has now added some new words to the political discourse whether good or bad.
The public and the politicians
With the election of 2015/16 around the corner, which will be a fight for the heart and soul of the Virgin Islands, one might not be able to avoid any of the ugly demeaning utterance from some who have already poisoned our otherwise tame political culture.
Many residents have come to agree that after the 2011 General Elections with the swearing in of some, our political ethos have changed dramatically akin to some of the unnecessary and childish behavior that has hampered our other Caribbean brothers and sisters from building their great little independent nations.
Such intimidation, threats and bullying, as described and alleged by Honourable Fahie on January 18, 2014, is not unique to Members of the House of Assembly (HOA) on each other, but some elected Members have used their privileged position in the Parliament to insult and slander members of the public over the past two years.
The few, no more than about two Members who have done this, are fully aware that ‘Joe public’ cannot challenge them in the court of law as statements made in our HOA by members are exempted from any legal actions.
Such scare tactics by some members have not worked but only turn off both the young and old from even tuning into our highest law making body in the land. It's clear that the very few Members simply do not have the maturity, political depth or experience to embrace tolerance as a bipartisan standard.
Many in the public have continued to be concerned about the overly aggressiveness and arrogance of one particular member in the HOA who is also a Minister of Government.
‘Joe public’ is now longing for the days of civil men and women, the days of deep, solid and serious debates on the relevant issues of the day, the days of former Legislators like Reeial George, H. Lavity Stoutt, Alban U. Anthony, Oliver Cills, Terrence B. Lettsome, Cyril L. Walters MBE, Ivan Dawson CBE, Cyril B. Romney, Ethlyn Smith and H. Robinson O’Neal, to name a few.
We have never heard or even read anywhere of those good gentlemen and lady threatening each other or the public for that matter. They believed in the dignity of Parliament and treated each other, regardless of which side of the isle they sat or their policy differences, with the highest respect and never abused their privileged opportunity in the then Legislative Council to go after the public.
However, at the end of this article we still have not concluded who is the bald headed Minister. All that we know, is that according to Honourable Fahie, “actions such as what that bald headed Minister raised his Ebenezer to do, makes me safely conclude that this is not a Government in the sunshine. This a government that wants to bully us and keep us blind”.

Having members of such caliber representing us on the world stage is crucial.
Our political role in these times go way beyond Capoons Bay or Sea Cows Bay.
Who we are and how we present ourselves ,the level ofmaturity and sophistication of our leaders and representatives can be known with just a click of a button by every corner of the globe and by opportunistic companies such as Bi Water.
Geez! Not even the wife of our current Premier has been off limit to the VIP.
Check the crowd man. A whole 20 people including the visitors from the 3rd? lmao!
You are both doing a great work and don’t let your great good turn into evil and becomes ugly. I can tell you that the person like me is not please with your comments on Saturday night.
So override the evil with good and move forward. Keep supporting the first district, but remember the other districts that comprise the entire Virgin Islands with your initiatives. Great work! Hon Fahie.
God bless our Government of the Virgin Islands.
Priceless headline. This one deserves a prize
