Who is ‘Mika Barry’? FB sensation terrorises residents
The Mika Barry postings done anonymously over the past months have captivated interest from all quarters of the Virgin Islands (VI), although some of the contents have been deemed libel and slander.
It appears at times video clips are doctored to prove a point and the page presents a number of scandals attacking some residents’ good names.
However, some of the information has been proven to be accurate.
Additionally, in a culture where residents like “melee”, the Mika Barry page remains as popular as Virgin Islands News Online.
There is also widespread speculation about who is behind the Mika Barry FB page. Some say it’s an inside job and accuse past and current law enforcement elements, both locally and overseas, of being behind the page.
Others claimed that the Mika Barry page is a local group of people who are obtaining information from different government departments, mainly the police.
It’s not me-Masa
One person, a Ramoamasagana “Masa” Pemberton, has cleared his name on social media and stated clearly he is not a part of the Mika Barry page.
There are other speculations on who might be behind the page, names we would not publish.
The Mika Barry page has been a place for information and entertainment, whether true or false, upcoming events, scandals, inside information, downright gossip, melee, and most often erroneous information on residents’ character.
Among the few pieces of information, the page has gotten right is the predicted arrest of a former Government Minister, as the next day it happened. They have also circulated a long list of persons they claimed will be arrested any time soon; however, according to our news centre's own investigation, half the names on the list are not caught up in the Commission of Inquiry's target list.
Whoever is behind the Mika Barry post, and there is a race on to find out, they have had an impact on the Virgin Islands' social media and some residents have been put on edge.
