Wheatley, Willock & Malone ousted; Maintain 'hands are clean’
It started first with the Speaker of the HoA, Julian Willock, who reported getting a phone call from the Acting Premier, Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) a few hours before the start of the HoA sitting on May 3, 2022, asking him to resign.
Willock stated that the Acting Premier confirmed to him that he has done nothing wrong, or he has no knowledge of him being the subject of any active investigation for misconduct or misappropriation of funds.
The former Speaker noted that he will not make public the other parts of the conversation, as he has the highest respect for the Acting Premier and the information was told to him in confidence, as to why he was being asked to resign.
Two removed from Cabinet for Unity Government
Meanwhile, it was announced yesterday by the Acting Premier that two of his Cabinet Ministers will have to resign from Cabinet in exchange for two members from the Opposition to form a Unity Government.
Gone from the Cabinet will be the Health and Social Development Minister, Hon Carvin Malone, who is also an At-Large Representative.
In a social media post this morning May 5, 2022, Mr Malone noted that he has done nothing wrong and “voluntarily agreed to cede my appointment as Minister.”
Minister Malone further noted that he has “not been listed in the Commission of Inquiry Report for audit or investigation”.
Hon Malone will be replaced by the Opposition Leader Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8).
Vincent Out! Mitch In!
In addition, Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) the Minister for Natural Resources, Labour, and Immigration, was also asked to vacate his Ministry.
He noted in a Facebook post that there were “unfounded reckless things said about me, which I can assure you are all baseless,” regarding him vacating the Ministry.
He assured the residents of his district and the entire community that his hands are clean. He will be replaced in Cabinet by Opposition Member, Hon Melvin M. Turnbull (R2).
Both Hons Malone and Wheatley will remain as legislators; however, they are now sitting as backbenchers.
However, Mr Willock did not enjoy such privilege and is no longer a part of the fourth HoA.
