ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Kenrick I. Davis has dismissed claims that the Virgin Islands (VI) has recorded a murder for the year 2026.

Referencing an article from the Turks and Caicos Sun, which stated that the Turks and Caicos Islands is among only two of 27 Caribbean countries without murders recorded so far in 2026, Acting DCP Davis clarified the situation.

The article, published on Tuesday, April 7, noted that murders had been reported across the Caribbean, including in the Virgin Islands (VI).

Crime down by 25%

During a forum held by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, the Acting Deputy Commissioner stated that crime has decreased by 25% overall.

“Sexual offences have gone down exponentially, robberies have gone down too; they won't stay down by themselves. It will take effort to keep them down.”

Davis emphasised that the Virgin Islands have not recorded any murders for the year.

“We were discussing that article about Turks and Caicos just this morning, and they having that BVI has had a murder, but that's wrong. We've not had a murder for 2026. 17th of December was the last one, and we've not had any for this year.”

88 Murders recorded for the past 20 years

He acknowledged that there is a drug trade in the Virgin Islands, noting that nearly all of the murders in the past 20 years have been linked to it.

“There’s a drug trade because all of our murders have been linked, well, in the past 20 years, we have had 88 murders from 2005 to 2025, and almost all of them, except two,” he stated.

Davis added, “So I'm saying that to say, not to scare you or anything, just to say that all of it is not within our control, because we're part of a regional system.”

He further noted that too many individuals in the Virgin Islands are willing to facilitate illegal activities. “Because of that, we will have some issues, but as a community,  murders, I would say not part of our identity, because we know it's coming from. It's really not,” he added.

Because we still have locals doing gritty things that can lead to jealousy that eventually leads to pow pow. Also no one knows what the Columbia man from the cruise ship is up to. All of a sudden it have people with things that value hundreds of thousands while working an average job.

Thanks and praises to the Heavenly Father. I pray that we as a community will love and value each other, that we see LIFE as a precious gift from God and we should not take that precious gift from each other. Let us live in peace and harmony and be each other's keeper.

Thankfully, you were putting the record straight regarding what the Turks and Caicos article said. PS: The headline could be misinterpreted if you don't read the article. I was ready to vent. Hopefully, we don't record any murders for 2026 and beyond!

I don't think its wise to put that statement into the atmosphere. Things occur in the spiritual realm before the Physical so please don't talk them into being....wishing you strength and guidance.
