Western Union BVI under new management

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Western Union Company, a leader in global payment services, today announced its remittance operations in the British Virgin Islands are now being offered by GraceKennedy Money Services (GKMS).As an authorized Western Union® Agent in eight other Caribbean Islands, GKMS has had a business relationship with Western Union with more than 20 years’ experience successfully managing this kind of business.

“We are very pleased Western Union operations in BVI to be led by a company such as GKMS, which brings to the table expertise in management and customer centricity, which is completely aligned to our strategy to provide fast, reliable and convenient ways for people to send and receive their money across the board”, said Kristine Cobian-Rodriguez, Western Union Regional Senior Manager for the Caribbean.

Several changes are slated to take place over the ensuing months. One of the immediate changes set to add to the convenience customers will experience is the opening of one of the Western Union Agent locations on Saturdays. “Before entering the market, we took the time to speak to both those who currently use the Western Union service and also those who didn’t”, said Noel Greenland, GKMS Senior VP of Operations. “We have found traditionally that Saturdays have proven one of the busiest days in Western Union Agent locations the Caribbean over. The desire for and anticipation of being able to have Western Union open on Saturdays in the BVI already suggests it will be a welcomed change here”, concluded Greenland.

“GKMS wants to make it easier for everybody to do business with Western Union. It fulfills our promise to delivers a clear enhanced value proposition to our customers”, added Cobian-Rodriguez.

Already cost benefits are being passed on to Western Union customers. The security fee of $2.50 that was previously charged to consumers has now been removed. When using their Western Union Card, customers cancontinue to send money for as low as $8.99 transfer fee* excluding sends to the Dominican Republic and Colombia.

Western Union operations will continue from two locations in the BVI: Mr. Nice Guy in The Valley, Virgin Gorda, and also in the Palm Grave Shopping Center in Tortolla.

GKMS operates Western Union Agent locations in Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Montserrat.
