SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI – West Gunners completed a sweep of Hannah’s Triple Threat with a 68-49 win in game 2 in the Sea Cows Bay Basketball Club Intermediate League on Saturday, November 10, 2012.

The Gunners led game 2 from start to finish ending the first quarter up 17-8 and would not allow the defending Champs any closer than 7 points for the rest of the game.

The half time score was 17-26 and that margin was increased to a 12 point advantage by the end of the 3rd (40-28)

The 4th quarter was littered with errors from both teams as the Gunners relaxed and Hannah’s pushed hard to stay alive in the Championship. With under 2 minutes left and the score 60-46, Hannah’s were penalized for a Technical Foul, but Kyle Abraham missed both free throws, Delvin Leonard then missed two more and Hannah’s sensed they had one last chance to win the game.

Damian Hooper’s shooting let him down when it mattered most as he missed two free’s with 1.31 left on the clock. Hooper did convert a field goal to make it 48-60, but then having been awarded a Tech,  Hannah’s could only convert 1 of 4 attempts to make it 49 -60.

Into the last minute, Hooper missed again, the Gunners converted a free and in the dyiing seconds Abraham rounded out his stellar scoring night with a couple more points, the last of which came as he reacted fastest when Hannah’s tried a quick restart by bouncing the ball off Abraham.

Abraham finished with 20 points and 5 rebounds, Jamarlie James added 14 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal and 3 assists, whilst Delvin Leonard finished with 12 points and 8 rebounds.

“We are feeling really good, good for the team and good for the Honourable Andrew A. Fahie who came in at the last minute to be our Coach” commented Abraham “those guys didn’t seem prepared for the championship, so we put some pressure on them early and then began running our plays and that was pretty much that.”

“I’m proud of these guys, it’s been a long time since we won a championship of any kind in our village,” said Fahie “the players listened, they came together and they did excellently. I’m proud of each and every one of them, we are the champions and we earned it.”

Fahie also went on to thank Milton McLean for organizing the league and the sponsors for helping to make it so successful. He also said that there were plans to organize similar sports activities in his district “ most of the teams want a rematch already so we will be planning something in the West, but not just one sport,” he commented “It will be a united effort.”

Top Scorers for Hannah’s were Tyronne Donavon with 21 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists and 1  block; Damian Hooper with 9 points, 2 rebounds, 3 steals; Romano Peters with 6 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals and Marshal Thomas with 6 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals.

“We had a couple of factors with players being sick and unable to get rides, so we were a bit disorganized” noted Coach Brent Leslie “ The players heads weren’t in the game, worrying too much about referees' calls and not getting the ball, but we will be back next year.”

West gunners showed they are very organized and disciplined” said SCBBC League organizer Milton McLean “our youngsters can learn from them. It was a good season and we have seen a lot of talent on show. I just hope they can go onto bigger and better things.”

In Game 1 of the Championship the West Gunners routed Hannah’s, 60-41 with West’s Deshawn Hodge scoring 17 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal and 3 assist. Jarvis Alexander added 13 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist, whilst Kashawn Pope notched 7 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal and 2 assist. Abraham finished with 7 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block.

For Hannah’s Donavon scored 16 points and 1 rebound, Paul Linton 11 points, 9 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block, Cody Donavon 7 points and 8 rebounds and Hooper 4 points, 2 rebounds and 1 steal.

The next event for the SCBBC is a District Weekend Christmas Tournament for 7-10 and 13-16 yr olds sponsored by Hon. Julian Fraser RA and Hon. Myron V. Walwyn from Dec. 13-16, 2012, in Sea Cows Bay.  Registration is $ 10.00 per player.  Each team is allowed up to 10 players.  Games begin at 4:30 pm.  Registration deadline is Friday, November 30, 2012.

What nonsense you here saying? These guys from West played their butts off to win this championship. It wasn't given to them & they are the only winners on the court as champions so don't come on here trying to down play the West Gunners hard work & their victory or victories because they went undefeated.

Congratulations to McClean for hosting this league for so many years. Congrats to my boys from the West. Hull you played well & I admired the way the West Gunners played & their respect for their coach Hon. Fahie. This is good work by a group of talented young men.

Look them boys bring Fahie out of retirement from coaching & gave him a championship. Both Fahie & those fellows deserve this championship. I enjoyed watching them play & hearing the words of wisdom Fahie gave them during the game. This is good stuff. 1,2,3,...Belt! Big up McClean!

Look here. Fahie is here with these young guys from his area in basketball. He helps the females with softball. He helps many churches in & out of his area with music playing the organ. He helps in many other social & religous organisations in his area while representing them in the House of Assembly full time. He has his failures but his strengths far out do his weak areas. That's why, despite his critics, I always & will always support this man because he for real. You know what you getting with him & as he matures he is becoming more state like. Kudos & congrats to him & the young guys from his area for winning this championship.

This championship is timely for the West & to reassure all of us that once we take time out with our young males like what Mr. McCLean as well as Hon.Fahie, among others has done, they will do GREAT THINGS!

I first must congratulate these youngsters because it is all about them especially the West Gunners & Mr. McClean's consistancy in doing positive things such as these for many many many years. Just allow me to be a little political for a bit. They said Fraser & Myron sponsored this year's league. Well can you imagine to see Myron's face when he has to hand over his trophy to Fahie? LOl. Rolmao. I had to put this political twist in so forgive me.

this is all nice, congratulations. I do wish they would hold off on mini leagues as this interfere with VG summer Jams. Some of the players in the VG league couldn't attend because on their obligations to others teams. Again VG is being oversight

Mr.MCCLean's village league has been going on for the past 30 plus years so don't start no nonsense putting VG to be upset with this league. Just mean that this is the first year that it has gotten such publicity thanks to VINO.
