ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has said his government is “duty-bound” to support interim Acting Commissioner of Police (CoP), Richard Ullger.

During a press conference on Friday, December 12, 2025, the issue of former Acting CoP Jacqueline E. Vanterpool’s removal was raised.

“We have a new Acting Commissioner, Mr Richard Ullger. Of course, the Governor exercised his discretion in having him appointed, so whoever is in that particular position, we’re duty-bound to support so that we can fight crime here in the Virgin Islands,” Premier Wheatley said.

He also took the opportunity to point out that the government is pleased with the recent drug seizures and active investigations into the recent robbery at the Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park.

“We’re very serious about law enforcement, and we would like for the United Kingdom government, the FCDO, the Governor and the elected government to all be working together to fight crime.”

Premier & MP Doughty not aligned on Vanterpool issue

The Premier also revealed that he had the opportunity to meet and discuss this matter with the United Kingdom’s Minister for Overseas Territories, Stephen J. Doughty, MP.

“I have to say that we were not necessarily aligned in our particular views, and he expressed his support for Governor Daniel Pruce,” the Premier said.

Asked if he was disappointed by Minister Doughty’s position, Premier Wheatley replied that he was disappointed that they did not agree; however, he knows that they would not always agree.

“What is important is that we are united in the need to support law enforcement,” he added.

While he was unable to give an opinion on whether or not Governor Pruce’s handling of the situation has led to resentment by the people of the Virgin Islands, Premier Wheatley did say that, in his view, it has “undermined the perception of democratic accountability”.

Dr Wheatley encouraged Virgin Islanders by asking them not to be discouraged.

“We continue to advocate on their behalf  for the elected government having a greater role and a greater say in how the people are governed, especially in the areas we do not have responsibility right now.”

    Enough on the Commissioner Primer.
The news out of St.kitts today is that the Prime Minister has announced that government workers which includes statory bodies and pensioners will get double salary on the 19th December 2025. That 100 fuel nonsense will not help the people. People want money. The Prime Minister also announce that his Ministers would not get any double salary. The HOA has already raised their salaries and we the pensioners must continue to suffer. When salaries were last raised the pensioners should have had their pension move up also.

To be our own boss, we must end our subserveince relationship with the UK. Until then, resisting the UK's authority is pointless.
