ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI– The protest action against the controversial decision to revert Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline E. Vanterpool to her previous position as Deputy Commissioner of Police and bring in a man with a checkered past to temporarily head the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) will continue throughout the week.

One of the organisers of the planned protest, Sharia B. De Castro, spoke to the protestors gathered at the Governor’s Office on Monday, November 10, 2025. She announced that the protest would continue all through the week, concluding with a big march on Friday, November 14, 2025.

March on Friday

The first day of the protest saw a significant turnout at the parking lot of the Governor's Office. De Castro explained the daily themes for the protest: "Monday is Mobilising Monday, Tuesday is Talking Tuesday, and people will gather on an online platform, on Wednesday, [it's] Writing Wednesday, we encourage Virgin Islanders to write letters on that day. Thursday will be Town Thursday, and on Friday, there will be a march from the police station to the governor’s house."

Letters to the media

For Writing Wednesday, she stated, "We'll provide a list of email addresses for local and global media. We also want letters sent to the governor, and this should come from everyone standing here to communicate why we support this cause. On Thursday, we will gather in Noel Lloyd Park for Town Thursday, an open mic event that allows individuals to share their grievances and present ideas for collective action. Then on Friday, we march from the police station to the governor’s house."

Petition

She also encouraged Virgin Islanders to sign a petition, stating, "We’re asking everyone to sign the petition so that when we march on Friday, we can deliver it to the governor. This fight is about Commissioner Vanterpool, but it’s also about all of us because if it can happen to her today, it can happen to any of us tomorrow."

De Castro urged Virgin Islanders to come out in large numbers to join the protest.

Jay is the best sup of Prison we ever had, he has done a lot since he arrived. I support an independent investigation into the escape, but I will advise the Government not to play politics and get rid of him. He is what the prison need, he will fixed what’s wrong in the prison.
We have parts of the prison still not repaired from the hurricane. Cut in it budget. Make that make sense.

    Who is Commissioner Vanterpool?

There is a hope there will be a Commissioner Vanterpool if her application is successful.

There was an Acting Commissioner Vanterpool.

    Who is this Commissioner Vanterpool.

The Ministers are very loose with the truth and there is disrespect to the Governor. Who is the "governor?"

Sometimes the Ministers do not know that we are a Territory of the UK and think that we are a country.

They think they can say anything and that it is true. They think that Virgin Islanders are so DUMB they will believe all that they say.

What is it that happened to her today that is going to happen to all of us tomorrow? We are going to be allowed to carry on in our actual job and not in the one we were ACTING in.

    Sounds fair.

Why did'nt any of you stood up against the mandatory covid-19 injection over two to three years ago when the peoples lively hood was treathened from there jobs. We are now silently witnessing vaccine injured persons who is holding it down because of shame. And yes they said it. Many of them cant spreak now because they have passed on. That was a voilation against human rights. That is what needed to be protested.

Virgin Islands continued success, growth, development, etc., require Virgin Islanders being moored to unity, group effort, to the principle of each one help one, to the ethno-aggregation PowerNomics practice, etc. Scattering, dividing, etc is counter to collective, cooperative, and collaborative effort. It makes a group weaker, more vulnerable to abuse, exploitation, etc. The Jews along with others have learnt well from the adverse action of scattering, dividing, etc, learning from and capitalizing on the bad experience(s) . Effective organizing is key to Virgin Islands success and progress. Historian Harold Cruse: “ History had taught Jews that without a strong purposeful organization, there was little chance for survival in a hostile world.” Virgin Islanders need to take this lesson to heart. The guiding principle is that an organized group has a power advantage that a scattered group does not have.

Moreover, power follows the numbers; there is power and strength in unity. For example, the ant colony is a unified, well-organized organism, which survives through group effort. Each ant has a role which contributes to the good of the colony.

Further, meritorious manumission may benefit an individual effort but does little, if anything, to advance group effort. Virgin Islanders must unite, advocating for the greater good of the territory and eventually the country. Lack of unity, group effort, etc., will keep the Virgin Islands and its people wedded to the shackles, chains, etc., of colonialism. Colonialism is about conquest, colonization , control, division, exclusion, special privileges and entitlements, exploitation, expropriation, racial hierarchy, etc. Virgin Islanders like people elsewhere in the 21st Century is entitled to pursuing a self-determination status of their choice without hindrance. Self-determination choices include integration, independence, free association, etc. Virgin Islanders must be afforded the opportunity through a referendum to choose a self-determination option similar to what Bermudians had the opportunity to do in August 1995, choosing to remain an Overseas Territory of the UK. The Virgin Islands currently is an Overseas Territory of the UK and is supposedly self-governing yet under the dependency-modeled constitution the UK- appointed Governor wields ‘unilateral power’ ( reserve, assent,, special power). It seems as though unilateral power is being exerted in the appointing of a highly qualified local as Assistant Commissioner of Police, then reversing that appointment seemingly to appoint a fellow Briton as Assistant Commissioner of Police, and seemingly highly probable as Commissioner farther down the road.

      E. Leonard, you truth telling, for every problem or issue, there is a cause(s). I’m making an assumption which is a bad thing to do ( ass- u-me) that you were a career navy guy riding the waves on ships. But in reading your writings, it seems you some knowledge of management science. By the way happy Veterans Day! I digress.

Indeed, effective planning, organizing, etc is essential for organizational success. And so too is unity, group effort, etc, are vital for organization, agency, department, boards, commissions, bodies, etc., effectiveness. Effective, experienced, etc leadership is vital and essential for success.. Leadership is not only about book sense, smarts, it requires personality,intra/ interpersonal skills. Leaders are readers but not all readers are leaders. Leadership and management cannot be bought; it is acquired and earned through time, experience. Ever ask or wonder why different leaders get different results with the same human capital and other resources?

For clarification, Ms. Vanterpool was appointed to act as Commissioner of Police. She has reverted to her substantive post. The person is being brought in to act as Commissioner of Police.

Leonard, bro, you too serious, Tortola/BVI people want the tge dirt, spill the Tea, etc. Seriously, you posits some good points , but I noticed that you have not touched directly on Governor Pruce’s abuse, disparaging , etc, of DCP Jacquline Vanterpool or the luke warm , miserable response's of Virgin Islanders to it . In November 1949, 1500 people from throughout the BVI came out to protest the dictatorial action, poor service delivery, along with a myriad of other issues etc, of Commissioner John Cruikshank. On the other hand, in November 2025 with fivefold the population, albeit approximately 70% or more of population are expat temporary residents on work permit, leaders struggle to attract a 100 people . Disappointing. Did you deliberately and diplomatically try to skirt tge issue. In difficult times fsmily support family. RealPol noted simply that lesdership is more than tge Xs and Os but also about personality , about intra/ interpersonal skills , etc. That is some deep shit. I thought leadership was about carrot and stick, cracking the whip ( not litersly) to get people in line. Is leadership not about being a desk jockey? If no, why only at election time candidates come around.

      E. Leonard, scattering, dividing, meritorious manumission , appeasement, disunity, lack of group effort, crab in bucket mentality, etc, are part of Willie Lynch’s scheme/ dream of controlling slaves/blacks//negroes, etc. Willie Lynch’s scheme entails, ie, a) distrust, b) fear, c) and envy aka badmindedness. It is a powerful, effective concoction, etc., which is still effective after almost 200 years of supposedly emancipation. It is a Sambo-like behavior ( we erroneously call it Uncle Tom behavior see Uncle Tom Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe ( 1852), classic novel ). The mischief guv Pruce is carrying on with DCP Jacqueline Vanterpool can be equated to a slow frog boil; it is no accident.

Over the years with constitutional reviews BVI negotiators were weak, and got duped. It was like taking candy from a baby, agreeing to give the UK-appointed Governor unilateral power. Now the chickens have come home to roost. Will the next slate of constitutional negotiators who are winging off to London soon be up to the task and not be duped again??? Virgin Islanders should not hold their breath. I digressed. What is a slow frog boil.

Well, science has proven that if you put a frog in a container of hot water, it will jump out. On the other hand, if a frog is put in lukewarm, tepid water and gradually heat it up, the frog will boil to death. It should be clear as day now, clear as mud, etc., what is stealthily happening in the BVI with our eyes wide open. guv Pruce is instituting former Commissioner John Agustus Cockburn Cruikshank ( 1946-1954) playbook. Nonetheless, Anegadian Fisherman and national hero Theodolph Faulkner led the Great March of November 1949 against the autocratic, colonialists antics of Cruikshank, netting positive results. What are Virgin Islanders going to do in November 2025, peacefully. ? Are they going to be champs like the 49ers or be Chumps relegated to the dung heap of history??? Champs or Chumps? Can the 2025 entitled, weak, etc., gang at least match the 1500 protestors of 1949.?

It is important to note that the 1500 from 1949 came from a population of approximately of 7000. 1500 in 1949 was an awesome number. What will historians write about the 2025 gang? It is not looking good? Get off the couch, lazy boi, etc and do something. Others have sacrificed so that you can enjoy the fruits of today so let’s get off our lazy a&&*$ and do something to protect, save, improve these Virgin Islands. They have given you much. Do something for Her.

@Sambo, I’m not usually into your posts , for they are too master/slave focus, too focus on race relations, but this commentary is deep, profound. Here is a news flash though. You trying to shame and embarrass BVI people, especially locals, into getting civically, socially engaged. It cannot be done. This commentary is worth exploring. It is revealing the truths in broad day light. It is a priceless service and gift to Virgin Islanders. Will they look a gift horse in the mouth.,Any bets….
