‘We will resist you taking over’ VI- Bishop Cline reiterates to UK

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Influential clergyman and Virgin Islander Bishop John I. Cline has expressed that the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) is leading towards direct rule over the Virgin Islands or its finances but will not succeed without a strong fight from the people of this territory, a movement he is ready and capable of promoting.

Mr Cline was at the time a guest on JTV’s The Big Story last night September 21, 2021, with host Cathy O. Richards when he was asked for his take on the CoI based on what has transpired so far.

Prejudicial CoI

The outspoken preacher said that after watching some of the inquires it is obvious that some of it are prejudiced “in terms of some of the counsels, and maybe the whole commission, came in with some preconceived judgements and what they want to do is verify or solidify or validate their preconceived judgement.”

Bishop Cline continued: “If you are doing an inquiry to find the facts then find the facts and let the facts speak for themselves. It’s not saying that you cannot ask questions, but when those questions are very leading and suggestive and if you are not a person who can think on your feet and say I don’t know, I don’t agree, then you can get trapped.”

He also said he doesn’t think the commission “is squeaky clean in terms of their motives.”

Can any good come out of CoI?

Mr Cline; however, noted that he is of the opinion some good will come out of the CoL.

“I think that a lot of good will come out of it," adding that he heard the former legislator Myron V. Walwyn saying on Monday, September 20, 2021, that he has learnt so much about governance “and some of the things we were not doing since, since this CoI, and I heard some of the other Ministers saying the same.

“So they are some good that will come out to strengthen governance, to put some procedures and practices in place that would guard against corruption, not saying that there was, but it would safeguard and strengthen our governance, especially when we are talking about greater autonomy or independence.”

‘A leopard does not change its spots’

Mr Cline said that what is coming out of the CoI has put the territory in a very bad place, “And we have to determine how we are going to deal with the results.

According to Cline, there are four likely results.

“A leopard does not change its spots we know how the UK behaved in the past.”

Mr Cline referenced the Turks and Caicos Islands where the UK suspended the constitution and took over the country. “That’s a likely issue.”

“Anguilla, after the Commission of Inquiry, they took over the Ministry of Finance. They started to run the financial arm of the country, likely result.

“Third likely result, we’ll have a greatly assisted government structure. In other words, we are going to come alongside you, to ensure that you fix what needs to be fixed.

“We are going to bring in some people, put them alongside you, we are going to supervise the transition from what we see as the weakness in your governance structure and we are going to come alongside you and make sure your people are trained, you are trained and everyone knows that we should be on this same page.”

The other likely result, in Mr Cline’s view, is the UK saying to this present government, “We have seen what you have done, we believe it did not lend itself to good governance, but we do not believe that it arises to the point to remove you from office or declare that you are not fit for governance. So here is the timeframe in which you need to do xyz. And if we don’t see you getting it done by xzy we are going to take over.”

‘I will get people to fight with me’

In the final analysis, the Bishop says is of the view that the UK, based on what is likely to be in the report, will throw on the Virgin Islands one of two first observations, the TCI scenario or the Anguilla one.

“I think from what I have seen, they have enough, whether or not they go there that is what we have to make clear to our governor, to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, that the extremes, at least the first extreme is not something that you would not meet resistance about. We will.

“We will resist you taking over our territory and that resistance will be strong.”

Asked if the people of the territory are in that fighting mode, Mr Cline responded, “I could fight and I will get people to fight with me. I could start a fight.”

Pastor Cline you on your own with this. I do not agree with the UK taking over, but that is what need to happen to get things in order here. The UK will make politicians understand or know the definition of first cousin, conflict of interest, just to name a few. We have been running a loose train and its time for us to be steered. If we can not police ourselves then someone will. This is the words right out of your premier mouth.

Sometimes people are for cause and not for political sides. That might be why it seems funny to you. It’s the problem with our country. Politics colours everything so your opinion must agree with a side. We must get past this noise around our minds as a people.

I thought this was a man of the cloth...but he may very well be a wolf in sheep clothing.

First and foremost, the BVI is the British. They have allowed the BVI to administer it affairs for some time but can retake control when they see fit.

Secondly, how and whom does he thinks will resist? The cronies,
so-called entitled one and major beneficiaries may be supportive but the mass majority of the populace is in full support of the COI and a British interim takeover.

We welcome the COI but I hope it changes the electorate as we sit down here and judge everyone when we elect those people. Direct rule does not mean the UK does not trust the politicians. It also means they don't trust you to elect leaders. Get a grip. We will fight for our country as we should. We welcome help but as a partnership an dnot a dictatorship.

You should have been in the ears of governments previous and current that they need to run the show with clean hands. Testimony after testimony we see the well being dug. Yes UK have their own problems, but we cannot continue with this live electric wire situation going rampant. Did you listen to the Hon Sheep yesterday. My head aint go no other spot to scratch. We are out of order and yes it will look bad, but we need to stop, line up and start over with a clean slate, and all for the better. Like it or not, its coming.

As for finding people to march, well you're in for the shock of your life. I for one will in no ways align myself in the public street against good and responsible governance in these BVI.

The Bible say in one passage of scripture that the love of money is the root all evil, false Pastor CSC says that if the government tax the the strip tease dancers that perform in the night club, where women spread their legs widely to give men a full view of the sex parts, that will be good for our economy. False Pastor Melvin Turnbull agree with false Pastor Claud Skelton Cline on this topic.
Among the many that claim that they are Christians, there are genuine one, but the majority that claim that they are they, false Pastor Melvin Turnbull, false Pastor Claude Skelton Cline, false Pastor, John Cline, and others not mention here are in the same group.
One of the biggest problem that is hurting us is our political leaders lust for money, rather than managing our finances rightly for the benefit of all the people of country, B.V.I. the present cabinet is mostly interested in re-election for the continuation of it personal agendas, mostly.
Lord, what a thing in the B.V.I where there are many false (same as fake) Christians claiming to be true ones.

smh that is all I can do; it is a sad state.
Godly principles are out of the door, anything is anything in the name of freedom in Christ. (which should be living a godly life without shame, no matter what others say) "not joining in like a lizard." Moral value are no more, the young are not channel in right directions from those who God has placed in position to guide. However; the time will come when he shall appear and all will have to answer for themselves. The power cant be in you unless He has given you time. What are you doing with the time He has given you. I do hope they can give an answer to The Hope that has been place into them. I am truly chocked and hurt by this as a believer. Thus the reason He has said trust no man, man hearts are DESPERATLY WICKED who can know it, not even your own. smh!!!!!!!

Some of us are always ready to put back on the chains and hand over the whip to the UK. Not enough of us are talking correcting our short coming putting checks and balance in place for proper self governance. Is it true that we are simply not capable of self governance or is fraud, corruption and selfishness our greater goal. Since European domination is there a place or people under their conquest where those they conquered enjoy any semblance of equity or have they just subsisted off of the crumbs? The model wont change.

I agree with everything you said with the exception why do UK want us now. UK do not want us UK want to take the BVI from us and many who are supporting it are the people who have left their country in frustration because of problems they were having in their country. They didnot think they were entitled in their country but they think they are entitled in the BVI. I support having a closer tie to the USA through the USVi. BVI turned to the USVI when UK gave us up as a bird sanctuary. We traveled there for employment and to sell our good produce and life stock. Our forefathers and fathers helped each other to build houses to give this generation a foundation now every tot mom and sam and johnny come lately think that it is too good for us and want to take ot away. I am convince this COI is not about good Governance it is about these UK guys flexing their muscles on us and showing us that they ate in charge and have their plan written already to take over so that they can enjoy the wealth for themselves. Now some also want to write wills claiming it is for free be mindfull of hidden agendas.

Actually the newly elected & strong willed government has been sabotaged

by the demonic imperialist desires of a people who can not take responsibility for the fact they displaced humans, enslaved humans, raped humans, profited enormously and now want to keep the descendants of those displaced people of color down

Especially now that their on a path to regaining their freedom autonomy & pride in full.

The people of the first world are stupendously clueless as to why many countries are dirt poor.

It’s a rigged system they print their money while pushing other currencies down in the gutter.

Economic assassination. Que the dehumanizing poverty causing sanctions.

The Virgin Islands has big bucks while using the dollar.

They can’t devalue US and are forced to take extreme devilish measures to stop our progress from enslaved laborers to a nearly autonomous & fully non dependent

We don't need a UK takeover. We just need them (through the governor) to oversea national security, crime and corruption.

Transfer the management of the civil service from the governor to the government. Remove the governor from the cabinet. Those functions are just a waste of his time.

Leave the police and prisons with him. Add the department of public prosecutions and an anti-corruption task force. If he does his job right and we see government officials in prison, we will not have any further problems with crime and corruption in the government.

However, we could never give our country over to the British with out a fight. UK admit it we had giving you this in 2007 so have it - let it be very clear who is responsible and not keep the confusion. If only Ministers Vote in Cabinet then let them deal with Cabinet - the Governor then signs or rejects what they produce
