ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI– Despite the challenges faced in Thailand, Olivia M. Freeman, Miss Universe British Virgin Islands 2025, expressed her optimism.

On Monday, November 24, 2025, family, friends, and well-wishers welcomed Miss Freeman back to the Virgin Islands following her participation in the Miss Universe pageant in Thailand.

She stated, "As you all know, there was a lot of controversy from the beginning of the pageant that tried to throw us off. But, the other contestants and I just tried to push through, enjoy the experience, and even in doing so, there were more controversies coming up along the way that tried to keep us down and [tried] to distract us from our goal, which I tried not to let happen to me.’’

Miss Universe 2025 Pageant in Thailand

The Miss Universe 2025 pageant, the 74th edition of the competition, was held in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi, Thailand, on November 21, 2025. The event, themed 'The Power of Love', was marked by several controversies and concluded with the dramatic crowning of Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch.

The competition format included preliminary rounds to select 30 semifinalists, followed by segments for swimsuit, evening gown, and a question-and-answer round. The winner was Fátima Bosch from Mexico, with the top four including Praveenar Singh (Thailand), Stephany Abasali (Venezuela), Ahtisa Manalo (Philippines), and Olivia Yacé (Côte d'Ivoire).

Controversies @ Miss Universe 2025

Throughout the pageant, several controversies emerged. Notably, an incident involving Miss Universe Thailand director Nawat Itsaragrisil and Miss Mexico Fátima Bosch during a live event led to walkouts. Itsaragrisil later apologised, and his role within the organisation was limited. Two judges resigned before the finals, with one citing allegations of pre-selected finalists and rigged results, which the Miss Universe Organisation (MUO) denied.

Additionally, Miss Jamaica was hospitalised after a fall during the preliminaries. Earlier financial issues resulted in the resignation of former CEO Anne Jakrajutatip. Other reported problems included disputes, a police investigation, and an apology from Miss Chile.

Miss Universe BVI remained motivated

Freeman expressed her gratitude to the Virgin Islands for the significant support she received throughout the pageant. She emphasised that discipline, consistency, and a focus on what was truly important—representing the Virgin Islands—helped her stay motivated.
