BEEF ISLAND, VI - Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) has expressed concern at the new cases of COVID-19 in the VI and has urged persons to remain vigilant.

During the receipt of the latest 2,000 doses of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine donated by the United Kingdom on August 31, 2021, Hon Malone confirmed that the territory has 50 actives cases of the virus, up by 25 from the previous week.

Hon Malone also said hospitalisations are now at 10, up from as low as three.

“We are heading in the wrong direction at this time, so my advice to the general public is to be vigilant, the Coronavirus is real, it is detrimental,” he said.

Hon Malone reminded that the virus continues to close down economies around the world and that the VI needs to address the issue with all seriousness.

Increase in hospitalisations- Deputy Governor

Deputy Governor David D. Archer Jr said it remains unfortunate to see an increase in cases and hospitalisations. “We do not want that any longer,” he said.

Mr Archer encouraged persons to make taking the vaccine a priority, given its importance to the overall fight against the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the Health Minister added that the VI has done what is necessary in terms of the investments in the healthcare system to protect the public.

He said public compliance is now important.

Hon Malone said the sacrifices made by the government, the health teams, and the people of the territory mean the VI has to continue to do what is right and not let death be the only motivator for COVID-19 vaccinations.

We have to live with COVID. People are going to get it. Fix the health facilities to deal with it. You cannot call ppl careless because they contract a virus. This is how viruses work! We cannot contain the common influenza so how can we contain covid which spreads the same way but affects some persons in a more severe manner.

We CAN mitigate both influenza virus and Covid 19 virus by means of vaccination, and continued adherence to the health protocols.
Vaccination is really important at this time.

I am for vaccination, what I am NOT FOR is the constant case counting! People will get COVID and that is a reality. Does that mean we stay in our houses forever? NO! It means we continue to live with it, take precautions where necessary but people will get it! You cannot have restaurants, bars, supermarkets, offices, schools opened and people not contract a virus that spreads so easily. While masks, sanitization can minimise the risk it does NOT eliminate it completely. Why Malone is shocked that we are still getting cases is beyond me.

I would first like to say Thank you Lord for Your Abundant Mercy towards us all and I pray Your Great Mercy Be Ever upon us and the whole earth.. Hon. Malone I would also like to say Thank you for trying your best to always encourage us all to remain vigilant and to be compliant with the safely measures as well as for persons to get vaccinated.. the deaths sadly (and again my condolences to all whom have lost loved ones; I did as well) appeared to be a driving force for more persons to get vaccinated, and also taking COVID seriously once and for all/also doing the safety measures.. God Gave us all His Wisdom and I pray Persons continue to seek it and to not become complacent yet again.. we all saw Sadly what this costed us.. persons do have a right to make choices but I do believe that God gave us these vaccines to Help us during this time (my opinion) ..I wish to believe that by now we all know the truth about the vaccines as it relates to the decreased risk of hospitalization/death and also the Grave Risk of not following the safety measures..
    Love Protects!!!

The question remains, how many of us willing to change coarse to and continue in the right direction?
Yes, you are right that we should not be our, you said only, but I say main motivator for covid-19 acceptance.
My encouragement to you is not to allow negative response to weaken our motivation in our effort to curb this death plaque, covid-19. Keep on fighting for the sustainability of human lives.

Our first mistake was not taking out health seriously in the first place.

We love to tell people that their bodies are temples. We love go shame women and call them names but no one was talking about obesity seriously. If our bodies are temples then why aren't we feeding it well? No one is talking about obesity now. The number 1 predictor of a bad outcome from a covid infection is obesity. The other underlying causes in the top 5 spots are linked to obesity, all except asthma which may be genetic.

Even now vaccinated people are getting infected and hospitalised, what do you think is the major commonality? They're obese! If you're obese you're at a huge risk.

Where are the government programs and PSA to talk about this? Encourage people to go on walks, eat less sugar, drink more water. 50% of our population is overweight or obese. If people think the vaccine alone is going to save them and they don't have to change their lifestyle then a battle may still be ahead.

This is a wake up call for the world. I hope people are hearing it.

Also please introduce some sidewalk initiative and get rid of stray dogs on the road. Going for walks alone can be scary sometimes because there are barely any sidewalks, the place isn't pedestrian friendly. I also get worried when I see a stray dog. They aren't always friendly.

      @hmmm.

Excellent post! If it's not this virus it is the next one. The most vulnerable would be at risk. We have young children pre- diabetic and pre- hypertensive why? Here is a better mandate: Nutrition and fitness mandatory starting from primary school up through high school. A National healthy lifestyle program. Think about it the more we prevent from developing chronic conditions or even managing how much less a burden they would be on our health care system.

Also what are we doing about treatments. It is not an established fact that vaccinated can get sick and hospitalized so what about early treatments?

It has come to my understand that we held a convention for occult caribbean practitioners a week ago, without government approval for such a large gathering. Wizards from as far as Haiti and Africa attended, and its possible they may have gotten some of our wizards ill. Government please look into this.

This is the major factor that must be addressed if we are to deal effectively with this pandemic. I believe that the vaccine can be more harmful if our bodies are not nutritionally balanced. Obesity and a range of other conditions that are diet and lifestyle related make for a bad outcome. Natural organic food is key to the whole issue and until we can come up with an emergency plan to cultivate and produce quality food we are in serious trouble. The quick fix importation process serves only to enrich a few with the resultant disease death and other harmful side effects. If you think someone standing at the festival ground with an injection needle can fix this problem this goes to show how naive we really are.

Hon. Carvin Malone said that we are heading in the wrong direction. He is right, because we are heading in the way of Godlessness. True, he meant the rise in the positive covid-19 count. But don't you know that Godlessness will keep us heading in the wrong direction? The greatest sin is the sin of SELFISHNESS. We are heading in the wrong direction. (Like or dislike)
