‘We heading in the wrong direction’- Hon Malone on new COVID infections

During the receipt of the latest 2,000 doses of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine donated by the United Kingdom on August 31, 2021, Hon Malone confirmed that the territory has 50 actives cases of the virus, up by 25 from the previous week.
Hon Malone also said hospitalisations are now at 10, up from as low as three.
“We are heading in the wrong direction at this time, so my advice to the general public is to be vigilant, the Coronavirus is real, it is detrimental,” he said.
Hon Malone reminded that the virus continues to close down economies around the world and that the VI needs to address the issue with all seriousness.
Increase in hospitalisations- Deputy Governor
Deputy Governor David D. Archer Jr said it remains unfortunate to see an increase in cases and hospitalisations. “We do not want that any longer,” he said.
Mr Archer encouraged persons to make taking the vaccine a priority, given its importance to the overall fight against the pandemic.
Meanwhile, the Health Minister added that the VI has done what is necessary in terms of the investments in the healthcare system to protect the public.
He said public compliance is now important.
Hon Malone said the sacrifices made by the government, the health teams, and the people of the territory mean the VI has to continue to do what is right and not let death be the only motivator for COVID-19 vaccinations.

Vaccination is really important at this time.
Love Protects!!!
Yes, you are right that we should not be our, you said only, but I say main motivator for covid-19 acceptance.
My encouragement to you is not to allow negative response to weaken our motivation in our effort to curb this death plaque, covid-19. Keep on fighting for the sustainability of human lives.
We love to tell people that their bodies are temples. We love go shame women and call them names but no one was talking about obesity seriously. If our bodies are temples then why aren't we feeding it well? No one is talking about obesity now. The number 1 predictor of a bad outcome from a covid infection is obesity. The other underlying causes in the top 5 spots are linked to obesity, all except asthma which may be genetic.
Even now vaccinated people are getting infected and hospitalised, what do you think is the major commonality? They're obese! If you're obese you're at a huge risk.
Where are the government programs and PSA to talk about this? Encourage people to go on walks, eat less sugar, drink more water. 50% of our population is overweight or obese. If people think the vaccine alone is going to save them and they don't have to change their lifestyle then a battle may still be ahead.
This is a wake up call for the world. I hope people are hearing it.
Also please introduce some sidewalk initiative and get rid of stray dogs on the road. Going for walks alone can be scary sometimes because there are barely any sidewalks, the place isn't pedestrian friendly. I also get worried when I see a stray dog. They aren't always friendly.
Excellent post! If it's not this virus it is the next one. The most vulnerable would be at risk. We have young children pre- diabetic and pre- hypertensive why? Here is a better mandate: Nutrition and fitness mandatory starting from primary school up through high school. A National healthy lifestyle program. Think about it the more we prevent from developing chronic conditions or even managing how much less a burden they would be on our health care system.
Also what are we doing about treatments. It is not an established fact that vaccinated can get sick and hospitalized so what about early treatments?
