BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI — Honestly Speaking host Pastor Claude O. Skelton-Cline has issued a sharp warning to churches and believers across the region, saying many religious leaders are failing to prepare their congregations for mounting economic, financial, global, and spiritual challenges.

Skelton-Cline, speaking on His Honestly Speaking programme on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, said that, amid what he described as major shifts taking place “in the Earth,” he is concerned that churches remain focused on messages of personal blessing while neglecting practical and spiritual readiness. He said he recently delivered a similar warning to his church, Bethel, in St Thomas.

“The church is ill-prepared,” he said. “The pastors, the bishops of these ministries, all across America, all across the region, are not preparing their parishioners for the global shifts in the Earth.”

‘Cotton candy’ prophecy criticised

The pastor and social commentator criticised what he called “cotton candy” prophecy messages centred on new cars, homes and material blessings. While acknowledging that such messages “may have their place,” he argued they do not reflect the biblical example of the sons of Issachar, whom he said “had an understanding of the times” and knew what nations ought to do.

Skelton-Cline urged church members not to rely solely on their local congregations for guidance if they believe they are not receiving the preparation they need.

“Since you’re not getting what needs to be gotten to get you prepared from your particular parish, I am telling you from this platform: take your head out of the sand,” he said.

Suit up for 'warfare'

He called on listeners to prepare themselves and their families, strengthen themselves spiritually, and “suit up” for what he characterised as economic, financial, global and spiritual warfare.

“Intercessors can intercept some things, but they can’t intercept everything,” Skelton-Cline said. “You gotta prepare yourselves.”
