‘We are not trying to avoid anyone’ – Hon Vincent O. Wheatley
Honourable Wheatley said with the increasing number of mediums that persons have at their disposal to contact them, it has become a challenge to respond promptly.
“I think people have gotten used to contacting us directly but as the workload increases, it’s a real challenge and a real struggle to attend to all the calls, and WhatsApp, and messenger and Facebook, personal email and the government email,” he pointed out during the First Sitting of the Second Session of the Fourth House of Assembly on Thursday November 14, 2019.
“So I just want persons to understand that when we don’t respond, it’s not like we are trying to avoid you. We will get to you at certain times but not immediately. It may take a day or two, maybe longer but we will get to you. We are not trying to avoid anyone, but it can be a bit overwhelming at times,” he insisted.
Be patient with us
Honourable Wheatley then called on the people to be understanding and exercise patience with their elected men and women.
“I try to answer everyone, but I took my phone a while ago, and I had 1,200 (messages). My daughter was saying, ‘you should pay attention when the HoA is going on’, I said ‘yes, but I’m trying to answer messages’.”
Hon Wheatley reasoned: “If you don’t answer people, they say you are trying to avoid them, they saying ‘oh during the campaign you up in my house, you up in everything, now you elected, I can’t get you.’ Just bear with us, be patient with us.”
