VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- Omar’s VG Restaurant has issued a statement on the early morning fire that destroyed the business along with Game Over, claiming that the fire did not originate at the restaurant.

The fire, according to reports, broke out during the early hours of Thursday, August 6, 2026. No injuries were reported.

“Our greatest comfort is knowing that the incident occurred after business hours and that no members of our team or customers were injured,” the restaurant said in the statement posted to its Facebook Page. 

“We wish to make it absolutely clear that the fire did not originate at Omar's VG nor was it caused by any action or fault on the part of our restaurant or employees. The fire originated in a neighbouring building and spread to our property due to the close proximity of the buildings.”

Grateful for the concern

The statement continues, “This was an unfortunate incident entirely beyond our control. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our incredible Omar's VG team, the first responders, and everyone who worked tirelessly to help save our restaurant. Your courage, dedication, and immediate support during such a difficult moment will never be forgotten.”

The restaurant also said their thoughts are with their employees, customers, neighbouring businesses, and everyone affected by this tragic event. ,

“We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming concern, prayers, and support we have received during this difficult time. As we process this loss and determine the next steps for our team and business, we kindly ask for your patience and understanding.”

In a Facebook post on his official page, Hon Vincent O. Wheatley, District Nine Representative, also expressed thanks and appreciation to the first responders- fire officers, police officers, and volunteers- who he said worked tirelessly to bring the situation under control.

“As we continue to await the outcome of the investigation into the cause of the fire, I encourage us all to keep those impacted in our thoughts and prayers, support one another where we can, and stand together as a community.”
