CARROT BAY, Tortola, VI – “Queen of Bacchanal, Destra come again!” and “We gon mash up, mash up, mash up, mash up everything” were some of the words from Destra Garcia’s 2013 song ‘Mash Up’ as she certainly returned to the Virgin Islands to “mash up” Carrot Bay with her energy. However, this time she was ably joined by the well loved Planet VI aka Rock City and WCK of Dominica at the Benito Potter Festiville last evening, August 9, 2013.
The line-up of artistes seemed to be just as the doctor ordered as their energy transmitted to patrons who partied the night away. The session was what one can safely call ‘hotter than hot’ and was the penultimate stage show for Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival 2013. Persons came out in their numbers to ensure they were a part of what was left of the festivities.
The night got off to a start with the Prime Time band aka Black Squad. Their on-stage performance sent the message through the air and water waves that it was time to party and if persons were lurking and not fully decided on coming out, they just needed to follow the vibes. The vibes did the excellent job in pulling persons from all corners to the Festiville.
The local artistes that further added to the mood were K’Are, Shine-I, NJAR, Vanquish and Bumpy B Breezy. By this time the Benito Potter Festiville was thickly plastered with patrons eager for a great night of partying.
Next on stage was the Dominican group, WCK, who stepped up the pace and paved the way for the remaining artistes to perform at a high level of intensity.
Monea and her dancers and Xtreme Band with Rudy were the ones that maintained the tempo.
It was then no surprise that the crowd was a well prepared one with more than enough energy as evident in their loud approval at the announcement of the coming on stage of Planet VI aka Rock City. The group was so high tempo with their music that the crowd seemed really charged up and needing more. Because of popular demand, Planet VI had no choice but to announce that they were going to be on stage again tonight, August 10, 2013 for the Festival last lap show at the same venue.
What they did also was to pave the way for the queen of bacchanal from Trinidad and Tobago, Destra Garcia. The woman was nothing short of a real hyped-up entertainer especially when it came to pumping some of the latest and hottest soca songs on the air waves. She skilfully, as always, did a great job at giving her fans just what they deserved and pulling some new fans as well.
Tonight’s acts will be Baby Cham, Small Axe, VI Showtime, Bumpy B Breezy, Stylee Band, and 17 Plus.
